I would recommend bringing this up in the ConnectIQ App forum (iOS/Android) and GCM forum (Android/iOS)

App install through Garmin Connect and ConnectIQ not working

Hi, I want to re-open this issue (link to old discussion here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/app-unable-to-install-via-gcm-installs-fine-via-garmin-express)

The only way to install apps reliable is through Garmin Express on a computer. I get tons of support messages (and poor app ratings) from users that are unable to install my apps through Garmin Connect Mobile or Garnin connectIQ. I can easily reproduce the problem myself. It happens for users both on iOS and Android and the problem is that they either get stuck in "install queue" (app never installs) or get reverted back to the app download page, without the app being installed at all.

Also, there seems to be many issues with app upgrades. Many users have complained that they cannot update apps but have to remove and re-install the app to get the new version.

This issue needs to be prioritised as it impacts the usability of the whole connectIQ ecosystem. We are without a functioning app distribution system

  • I started developing ConnectIQ apps about a year ago, and have published 2 to the store after completing development and testing.  But I have found that the update mechanisms that Garmin provides (Connect IQ website, app and Garmin Connect app) are so unpredictable and flaky that most of the devices using my apps are using versions that are months out of date (you can see this in the "Statistics" pane of the Developer dashboard).

I have experienced myself the frustration of trying (most often unsuccessfully) to install or update a given ConnectIQ app, and can understand why users have given up trying to keep their devices up to date.

As a developer, why should I waste my time fixing issues with the current version if the average user cannot actually update to the new version?

In my opinion, if Garmin wants to have a successful ecosystem of ConnectIQ applications, it needs to make the installation and upgrade infrastructure actually work.  Current situation is quite poor.

  • This is ridiculous, instead of closing tickets and blocking comments and upvotes Garmin should really fix them. That way if it's not fixed we could upvote and comment on the existing issue and not having to open a new one every 6 months...
