App activates/tracks GPS despite missing permissions

Hi - I'm getting several user reports of venu 2 users of my app, that it suddenly tracks GPS (a map with tracking shows up on their activity in garmin connect + the activity name is prefixed with the location name; activity is breathwork), and that it keeps GPS going after closing the app (draining their battery). The issue: The app does not have GPS permission and also no "run in background" permission - of course it also does not try using either of it. On other devices, like my fenix 8, this does not happen.

  • thanks  - I've tried implementing these things and also let claude run over the forums and checking for potential things I could change in the app to fix this. Unfortunatley, nothing of it works. Venu 2 user still experience massive battery drain after using the app (until reboot). any further ideas or any idea how to properly get this on the screen of garmin so they'll look into it?

  • Thank you Florian for posting this!

To Garmin developers - I am one of the users having this issue.  Device is Venu Sq2 running current firmware 2.69. After running several tests with the app settings, the GPS was running on the app when it was not supposed to and the battery life was under 24 hours when fully charged only after using the app after a restart which is extreme.  My battery life is typically over 5-6 days on a full charge and light to medium usage. I sent the following feedback to the developer:

    Here was my test:
    -Fully charge watch to 100%
-Uninstall all 3rd party apps and faces
-Install Meditate & Breathwork app only

When fully charged, with a non moving stock watch face and medium brightness the watch seemed to be holding battery normally (about 10-20%) loss in one day. As soon as I ran the Meditate app once, after that the battery started draining about 25% every 3 hours and died overnight on me. The GPS issue still remains as well.

    I then ran another test:
    -charge watch to 100%
-uninstalled the Meditate & Breathwork app
    -restart watch
    -use watch without app installed
I charged my watch to 100% on 3/16 and am still on 36% right now on 3/22. The average drain seems to be about 10% every 24 hours. A very significant change in battery life. I have been using the stock Yoga activity for now instead for my daily meditation to make sure I use the watch the same amount of time to keep the test fair.
It seems to be reasonable to conclude that there is some sort of memory leak causing a continuous extra drain in the background after using the app.
Thank you for looking into this,
