WatchApp: Activity Recorder

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/be468042-047e-4181-ae6f-e82a3f50b04e

A simple application that allows users to record activities like the built-in apps, but with more choices of activity type and sub-type. Activities that are uploaded to Garmin Connect have the specified activity type, so you don't have to go back and edit them after the fact. Supports three user-selectable data fields on a single page; Timer, Lap Time, Heart Rate, Average Heart Rate, Calories, Time of Day, Distance, Pace, Avg, Pace, Speed, Avg, Speed, Cadence, Avg. Cadence, Elevation, Ascent, Descent, Laps, Temperature fields are available. Allows users to enable/disable sensors and GPS for each activity type/sub-type.

*Note*: You have to enable sensors and GPS in the app if you want to record the data that they provide. i.e., if you want to go on a trail run and record your track, you have to select the activity type Run/Trail Running, and then enable GPS on the options page. All sensors default to off for all activity types. You must enable them explicitly.

*Note*: The list of activity sub-types is limited due to a ConnectIQ bug that affects most devices. The most requested activity sub-type is Strength Training, and unfortunately that one is affected by this bug. I will update the app as fixes are deployed with device firmware updates.

If you have a problem or question, post it in the forums thread (https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?239790) so I can respond.

Revision History:

0.9.6
* Added auto-save prompt 3 seconds after recording is stopped, much like you'd experience with the built-in activity applications.
* Added support for additional data fields, reorganized the data field selection to match up with the 920xt apps.

0.9.5
* Initial Revision
* Supports 920XT w/ 3.20 firmware and VivoActive w/ 2.70 firmware. Please post if you have success with earlier firmware versions.
  • Hope that in the next upgrade , this app will be able to get initial temperature reading as well ...other than just using the external Tempe sensor to get temperature reading..
  • Assuming you meant to say internal not initial... I can only provide it if access is given. I'm pretty sure it is available, but it will likely be inaccurate if you are wearing the device.

    ..Lol...yes I mean initial temperature ...
    hope that u can create a data field or an app that. can shows initial temperature .…the inaccuracy is not my concern...i only wanna know the approximate temperature
    reading
  • I'm not sure what you mean by initial temperature then. Do you mean the temperature detected at the start of the activity? Again, if you meant to say internal temperature, that would make sense. I'd assume you meant the temperature detected directly by the device (not using a Tempe sensor).

    Regardless, there is not much I can do here. I already provide access to all of the temperature data that is available.

    * internal

    Yes ...I mean the temperature detected directly by the device

    So u mean there is no way to get temperature reading directly from the device ?
  • The only temperature data exposed by the ConnectIQ API is through the Sensor module. I already have a data field that displays the data provided, and you get no data unless you've paired a Tempe.

    Recorder app - Firmware required

    This app doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? When I try to launch it I just get a red square with a cross.

    In my case I am experiencing the same, but instead of a cross in the middle of the red square I got the message "Firmware Update Required".
    Question: do you know when will Garmin release this Firmware update?
  • What device are you using, and what firmware version. Typically, there are beta firmware that are available. AFAICT, all of the fenix3, fr920xt and vivoactive should have publicly available firmware that meet the minimum requirements. You'd just have to use Garmin Express to search for updates.

    Travis - this is fixed in the latest SDK / FW?
