WatchApp: Activity Recorder

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/be468042-047e-4181-ae6f-e82a3f50b04e

A simple application that allows users to record activities like the built-in apps, but with more choices of activity type and sub-type. Activities that are uploaded to Garmin Connect have the specified activity type, so you don't have to go back and edit them after the fact. Supports three user-selectable data fields on a single page; Timer, Lap Time, Heart Rate, Average Heart Rate, Calories, Time of Day, Distance, Pace, Avg, Pace, Speed, Avg, Speed, Cadence, Avg. Cadence, Elevation, Ascent, Descent, Laps, Temperature fields are available. Allows users to enable/disable sensors and GPS for each activity type/sub-type.

*Note*: You have to enable sensors and GPS in the app if you want to record the data that they provide. i.e., if you want to go on a trail run and record your track, you have to select the activity type Run/Trail Running, and then enable GPS on the options page. All sensors default to off for all activity types. You must enable them explicitly.

*Note*: The list of activity sub-types is limited due to a ConnectIQ bug that affects most devices. The most requested activity sub-type is Strength Training, and unfortunately that one is affected by this bug. I will update the app as fixes are deployed with device firmware updates.

If you have a problem or question, post it in the forums thread (https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?239790) so I can respond.

Revision History:

0.9.6
* Added auto-save prompt 3 seconds after recording is stopped, much like you'd experience with the built-in activity applications.
* Added support for additional data fields, reorganized the data field selection to match up with the 920xt apps.

0.9.5
* Initial Revision
* Supports 920XT w/ 3.20 firmware and VivoActive w/ 2.70 firmware. Please post if you have success with earlier firmware versions.

Upgraded to version 3.0 on vivoactive. Recorder no longer remembers activity settings.

This is exactly what's happening to me and what I should have added in my post above. The selections are not saving. Anyone else?

I'm getting super frustrated with this. I've done several updates to the app to get the settings to work, only to have them broken by device updates.

I'm going to be out of town this weekend, so I won't be able to look at it until Monday.

I don't see "Cycling" as an activity type.

I removed it. I also removed the running and swimming activity types. If you want to record one of these the built-in apps are much better.

The reason I did this was because the menu systems that are built into the devices only support 16 menu items and there are more than 16 different activity types. I didn't feel that it made sense to categorize the activity types, so I just removed the ones that I felt were unnecessary.

    Datenschutz

    Hallo,
wäre schön, wenn ich den Datenschutz für meine Aktivität direkt in der App einstellen könnte (Datenschutz, wer soll meine Aktivität sehen können: Nur ich; meine Verbindungen; usw.)
  • Hello There, would be nice if I could adjust the privacy of my activity directly in the app (data protection, who should be able to see my activity: Only I and my connections, etc.)

Unfortunately, that isn't possible. The privacy of your data is a feature of Garmin Connect. It is set on the activity after it is transferred.

The best thing you can do is set the default privacy to Private in Garmin Connect and then make your activities Public as you see fit.
  • Gone from Connect IQ?

I don't see the app in the Connect IQ store anymore. Removed it from watch to try another application, then it was gone when I tried to add back. Really liked using it for gym workouts. I was also going to try using it for swimming with HR monitor. It filled a key gap between the Garmin apps and what users need- hope to see a new improved one back soon.
  • Lots of users were having issues with the latest version not saving settings and the user interface not being very intuitive. I asked that the folks at Garmin pull the app from the store so that I can fix the issues without getting more negative feedback.

I will be re-releasing the app soon. Just want to get the bugs worked out. Thanks for your patience.
