WatchApp: Activity Recorder

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/be468042-047e-4181-ae6f-e82a3f50b04e

A simple application that allows users to record activities like the built-in apps, but with more choices of activity type and sub-type. Activities that are uploaded to Garmin Connect have the specified activity type, so you don't have to go back and edit them after the fact. Supports three user-selectable data fields on a single page; Timer, Lap Time, Heart Rate, Average Heart Rate, Calories, Time of Day, Distance, Pace, Avg, Pace, Speed, Avg, Speed, Cadence, Avg. Cadence, Elevation, Ascent, Descent, Laps, Temperature fields are available. Allows users to enable/disable sensors and GPS for each activity type/sub-type.

*Note*: You have to enable sensors and GPS in the app if you want to record the data that they provide. i.e., if you want to go on a trail run and record your track, you have to select the activity type Run/Trail Running, and then enable GPS on the options page. All sensors default to off for all activity types. You must enable them explicitly.

*Note*: The list of activity sub-types is limited due to a ConnectIQ bug that affects most devices. The most requested activity sub-type is Strength Training, and unfortunately that one is affected by this bug. I will update the app as fixes are deployed with device firmware updates.

If you have a problem or question, post it in the forums thread (https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?239790) so I can respond.

Revision History:

0.9.6
* Added auto-save prompt 3 seconds after recording is stopped, much like you'd experience with the built-in activity applications.
* Added support for additional data fields, reorganized the data field selection to match up with the 920xt apps.

0.9.5
* Initial Revision
* Supports 920XT w/ 3.20 firmware and VivoActive w/ 2.70 firmware. Please post if you have success with earlier firmware versions.

Too complicated / didn't work well.

Lots of users were having issues with the latest version not saving settings and the user interface not being very intuitive. I asked that the folks at Garmin pull the app from the store so that I can fix the issues without getting more negative feedback.

I will be re-releasing the app soon. Just want to get the bugs worked out. Thanks for your patience.

I wish I had seen this post before now!

I had issues with the app not remembering the activity type, not starting the HR monitoring automatically, and (on upload to GC web) recording the activity as "Untitled" and activity type as "Uncategorized" even after I waded through all the (many!) screens to laboriously select "Elliptical". Today it failed to record any HR measurement or calories. Frustrating.

    Bring it back soon!

This was a really great app, and much needed! I understand the need to update without all the bad feedback. But I really liked it and I know others did as well. Good luck and PLEASE bring it back soon!

I used RECORDER for open water swimming on Vivoactive

In advance, thanks for this app that I used for openwater swimming on vivoactive.
Since 3.10 vivoactive software update, the application doesn't work, but I'm sure you will solve the problem.
I read on previous page that you removed swimming activity type, but it could be so nice to keep it, it's the only one solution to record openwater swimming on vivoactive.
    Good luck for software debug/development.

    Will the app be returning???

I LOVED this app and was so sad it was gone when I had to reset my watch... I used it daily! It was the only app to bridge the gap for other training activities! Do you have an estimated time time when it will be back to download? The benefits of the app completely outweighed anything I was frustrated with. Thanks!
  • I plan to have it back by next weekend. I've added the ability to specify the number of data fields per page and the number of data pages. I need to re-add the ability to select the data fields you want use for each mode, and then I have to test. Hopefully this version won't be have as man problems with remembering which sensors are supposed to be enabled/disabled as the previous version.

I would also like to knw if this will be re released soon

    Thanks
  • I didn't finish it last weekend (my development time is pretty limited with all of the other things I've got going). I'm on vacation for the next 10 days, but this is at the top of my list when I get back.

I have everything working in the simulator. The only thing I need to do is add the ability to enable/disable sensors for each mode. That should be about two hours of coding, and then I've got about 4 hours of testing on top of that.
