Quickly check the weather before you go out for a run. Your last known GPS location is used when you are indoors. This widget requires that Garmin Connect Mobile is running on your cell phone so that it can communicate with the internet. This apps uses the System-Units-Distance setting to determine whether to show statute (Fahrenheit/mph) or metric settings(Celsius/kph). You must be running the latest version of the device software that supports widgets.

Brian, does the std weather widget on the vivoactive also use open weather as it's source? If so, I can see why people are complaining in the vivoactive forum about how bad the data is! I mean getting data from a website with 2-3 hr old data at best, just won't work if you want to see something fairly current, no matter how fast that data is displayed or where it's cached!

I don't know where the weather data is pulled from for the native widget. The data comes to the watch via the default communication API between the watch and GCM. The actual request would be somewhere in the GCM code, which I am not familiar with.
  • Great little widget (keep up the great work)!
How do I change the "options" (if that's what you would call them) so that I can see the sunrise / sunset data and perhaps change the color of the temp?
    Thanks!!!!

BTW ........ just added/request you on Garmin Connect if you get a notice.

I think I found the answer to my question but now have another .................
Looks like there will be an UPDATE coming for the Fenix 3 to show this data. (Although I still wonder if it's possible to change the weather number colors.
So my question now is do updates to widgets come automatically or do we need to download to device again?

When you plug in your device and launch Garmin Express it should tell you that you have an update the the widget.
The numbers change colors automatically. Blue if it's cold (below 40), green if it's warm out (40-80) and red if it's hot out 80+.
I have not added sunrise/sunset to the Fenix 3 yet.
