An arrow points in the direction that the wind is headed. So a head wind will show the wind coming directly at you. A tail wind will show the arrow going in the same direction as you.
Updates are done every 5 minutes (most frequent allowed by Garmin). During the update, the arrow will flash. If you are out of cell coverage, the arrow will remain flashing until it is able to make a connection.
I'm using the DarkSky.net weather api for data. I've found that it's the most accurate with the lowest cost. I'm currently charging $5 usd for one year's access.
There is an initial 7 day free trial, during which time you'll see a nag to register along with an 11 character registration code in the form of xxxxx-xxxxx.
