App: START TO RUN

The schedule is a 10 week run/walk schedule with 3 lessons per week.

Advice:
  • Try to run in an even pace (run slow enough so you can keep up this pace!)
  • Walk in a way that you are active but also recuperate enough to handle the next running block
  • Take (at least) one day of rest after each lesson!
  • Treat the schedule as a guideline (take extra rest when you feel too tired!)
  • Consult a doctor to take a cardiogram is a wise thing to do
Trivia:
  • This is the schedule that taught me how to run. Back in the day I couldn't run 500 meters, now I'm running ultramarathons... so this schedule worked wonders for me... I'm pretty sure it will also enable you to take up running, which is the reason I wrote this app for the Garmin Connect IQ platform.

The apps are free to use indefinitely but donations are encouraged from within the apps with a small encouragement text.

Question : will this app start a new activity?
I'll explain : say I leave home and start recording my session, I walk to the track (bout 10 min) and when I'm at the track I want to use the app. When the lession I chose is done I walk back to home. Will there be 1 recorded actyvity or 3 (walking to track, lesson, walking home)?

    Tx !!
  • There's no warmup foreseen within the start to run app so your walk towards the track would have to recorded in a seperate recording.

At the end of the lesson it inidcates to you that the lesson has finished with the message "DONE! (PRESS STOP)", however if you do not press stop it keeps recording so this means you can include your walk home inside the recorded session.

Good luck with your Start To Run!

    Hi,

Thanks for the great App, I have a small question / request.

When I chose a lesson there is (Details...) written at the bottom of the screen, usually (...) means there are more information if you click here. I pressed down and nothing happened .

I think it would be useful to add run details, I know that I will walk for 12 min and Run for 12 min (W2D3) but I don't have the breakdown.

    Example, if you can add some thing like ( 1R, 1W, 2R, 2W, 3R, 3W, 3R, 3W, 3R, 3W) that would be great.

    Thanks again.
  • You also have the longest run block in the details, so you'll know the longest run block will be 3 minutes :)

I actually have the information stored internally that way, I've added your idea to my todo list but I'll have to think about a nice way to display as it could become too cryptic in some of the 10k lessons.

You also have a point about the 3 dots, so short time solution might be to replace Details... by Details in order not to confuse people
  • Released Start To Run 5k v1.8, Start To Run 10k v1.3:
    - added possibilty to set background color (white/black)
    - added support for fr645
    - internal code restructuring

    Hi
Just tried using your app on a vivoactive3 but it would only register a run it basically never changed. It started on RUN and never advised to stop running and start walking etc. I would have expected it to start with WALK then switch to RUN like the android app does and provide a vibration alert to switch between RUN/WALK.

    Any ideas?

    thanks
