Data Field: Foot Pod Pace

I have put together a Data Field which makes a direct (low level) connection to a Foot Pod to display instantaneous pace with a resolution of 1 second.

It is very much a work in progress and of course I am limited to what I can test. I have a Vivoactive and a Forerunner 935 (both ends of the spectrum) in addition to two Garmin ANT+ Foot Pods, and all combinations work.

I would be interested if people could try my Data Field, especially with different brands of Foot Pods, and report on here what works (and possibly what doesn't). I would also like to know if the data is smooth enough (the ANT+ spec for an SDM as they are officially called requires the transmitted data to be filtered enough for direct display to the user) or if further smoothing might be beneficial.

I drew heavily on the examples published by IMGRANT (Auxiliary Heart Rate) and MoxyRoger to understand how to set up a Low Level ANT+ connection and I would like to express my gratitude to both of them.

  • Hi Gerard,

i just downloaded your app to my FR935 - should I still disconnect the pod from the watch for you app to work?

And another question: do you know if, keeping the pod connected to the watch and having selected speed/pace from pod instead of GPS, the Garmin data field "pace" is howing the pace from the pod or from GPS distance/time, independent of the settings?

    thanks,

    Michele

I love this date field . Thank you for writing it!

My feinix3 aways adding up wrong distance after i run though a tunnel,

So is it possible to build another date field like "foot pod distance" so that we can get the distance date from the pod?

    thanks.
