HRV
Get the app.

Graphing.
The design currently only saves to 1 location per day. The timestamp is taken when the test starts, so autostart will take the timestamp at the scheduled time. This means that any saved test will overwrite any previous test of that same day. A day is calculated from the local timezone, so travelling won't disrupt the storage so long as you have updated the timezone before starting the test. The averages are a 30 day mean average.

Description & Explanation
Wouldn't that be nice. Will happen, but might take a while.

Notes
- Your device must have firmware that supports Connect IQ Apps.
- You can save the results by creating a log file. To do this you must work out which name has been applied to the HRV app file. The apps are in the /GARMIN/APPS folder. It will be a name something like A6227C9B.PRG. You then create a log file with the same name, e.g /GARMIN/APPS/LOGS/A6227C9B.TXT. Each reading you save will output a result formatted as ISO8601 date & time, hrv, avg pulse, 30 day hrv avg, 30 day pulse avg.
  • But it seems a HRV reading from an iPhone should be of sufficient quality to get feedback for your training sessions.
I suppose the elevate sensor would give HR of same or better quality as the iPhone. Maybe I'm wrong..

But if it's not gonna pich the HRV from the built in sensor - how should the automatic measuring take place without requireing me to sleep with the chest strap?

I am sorry for the confusion, the app was made before the Fenix3HR was on the market. I have no way of testing. The app does require a HR strap.
  • Thanks for clarifying.

Does that go for all the other Garmin models with OHR as well?

This should definitely be your first priority issue to fix. To sleep with a cheststrap would be NoGo for me - and a bunch of other potential users.
Even if HRV data is of low quality using OHR I would presume the iPhone method is no better. As long as users are avare that this set of data is not of "medical quality" it is what you can get by this method

I don't even know if their OHR supports the rr intervals required for HRV. Supply me with a OHR device and I may be able to make an updated version.
  • They don't, see the link posted on the previous page.

@jorang - not sure what you mean with the iPhone doing HRV calculations as it doesn't have an HR sensor. Are you referring to apps that use the built-in camera? Needless to say you can't get any decent "r-r" data like that, it's going to be a very rough guesstimate at best, nowhere close to the real thing.

The best way to use HRV for recovery is to measure it each morning for 2 minutes and see how it trends, that's what apps like Sweetbeat or HRV Elite do, there's absolutely no need to record for hours on end while you're sleeping.

possible to get this measure from built in HR? called "elevate"?

    Hi,
I got the Fenix 3 Sapphire HR - is it possible to measure HRV from the built in sensor instead of strap?
  • Vivoactiv HR

    export HRV?

    Hi everybody;
is there a way to extract the readings (export in csv or other formats i can put in excel type sheet) for further manual analyses or future import to other health platforms?

I am surprised Garmin did not yet tap into this metric with Connect as HRV is getting more and more credit as reliable training intensity guide..great that this app came to connectIQ..

    Thanks
