Data field: Auxiliary Heart Rate

Support thread for the Auxiliary Heart Rate data field: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/88ce4547-7d84-4289-b2c7-3e15ca00185f
  • Is it necessary to do some configuration to save the hr? Tried it in swimming app, the HR as on the datafield but after save the activity it didn't appear.

No, the heart rate should be recorded and saved into the FIT file without any additional configuration once the data field is activated. Note that the ANT+ signal does not work underwater, so perhaps the watch was not able to detect the HRM in your case?
  • Version 1.1

I've uploaded a new version, which adds the ability to fix the ANT+ ID of the HRM you want to connect to. Set to zero (default) to use wildcard search as before.
Note that, even with wildcard search, once the data field has made a connection to a given HRM, it locks to that ANT+ ID, so if it drops the connection and goes back to 'Searching...' it will search for the HRM it was previously connected to. To go back to wildcard search, you need to exit and re-start the app.

(I also changed the title of the field and graphs to include 'Aux.' in this version, so that you can distinguish it from the native HR field)
  • Thanks for the update.

I can see the setting of the ANT ID but not the change in the name of the field, haven't checked to see if it's changed in GC/GCM.

BTW I found that the FR235 can indeed create a second ANT+ connection to an external HR, you just need to set the first external HR in the sensor settings and if there's another one around AHR will connect to it once the activity is launched. Great to troubleshoot my current strap/pod problems ;-)

No, I tested it in my living room at home :) Just moving the arms like i was swimming crawl, In the datafield it displayed the HR accurately, but in garmin connect i can't see the HR data. I have the fit file but i don't know how i can open it to see if ir recorded the HR.

Strange that you see one thing that was updated but not the other. Try uninstalling and reinstalling again...?

You mean a second ANT+ connection to a second external HR? That is as I would expect, but I don't think you can have the watch (native) and Aux. HR both connect to the same external ANT+ HRM.

Ahhh, I see! Just carpet burns then ;-)

You usually need a tool like fitdump or FIT2CSV (part of FIT SDK) to examine the FIT file. This sounds like a lag/bug in Garmin Connect. It can take a while before things appear on Garmin Connect sometimes.
  • After deleting the DF and reinstalling it I now get the new label and the ANT ID of the strap it's connecting to.
  • Tried it again this time in a real swim session. The datafield worked fine and showed the HR data during the activity but in garmin connect there's nothing.

Strange, the activity page does not even show the Aux. HR icon, which indicates the data field was active during recording. I have heard of Fenix 3s having problems with Connect IQ data fields. Have you been able to use any other data fields that record additional metrics in the FIT file?
