Subject: Edge 1040 + Varia RTL515 – Brake Light in Smart Mode
Hello maca88,
First of all, thank you for developing Smart Bike Lights. It is a fantastic application.
I am trying to configure the brake light function with the following setup:
-
Garmin Edge 1040
-
Garmin Varia RTL515
-
Latest Smart Bike Lights version
-
One rear light only
-
ANT+ light network paired correctly
The communication between the Edge and the Varia works perfectly.
I can manually switch all light modes from the Smart Bike Lights data field:
-
Off
-
Solid
-
Peloton
-
Day Flash
-
Night Flash
The light immediately changes mode, so communication with the RTL515 is working correctly.
The problem is only the Brake function.
What I have already tested:
-
Smart mode (S)
-
Manual mode (M)
-
Network mode (N)
-
Several Lights Configuration strings generated with the official configurator
-
Acceleration thresholds (-20 and -10)
-
Different brake filter configurations
The brake rule never activates.
One thing I noticed is that:
-
when the light is in Smart mode I see S
-
as soon as I manually select Day Flash (or any other mode), the display changes automatically to M
-
if I switch back to S, the light returns to standby.
My goal is very simple:
-
Normal riding → Day Flash
-
During braking → Solid
-
After braking → back to Day Flash
Is this behaviour actually supported with Edge 1040 + Garmin Varia RTL515?
If yes, could you please provide either:
-
the correct Lights Configuration string, or
-
an example configuration that implements this behaviour?
If this is not possible because of RTL515 firmware limitations or Smart Bike Lights design, could you please confirm that?
Thank you very much for your time.
