Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

ErgIQ Reviews or Other Information

  • Thanks for a very informative post. ErgIQ did not give me Training Effect, so the 'Row Indoor' app would seem to be the only way for me to get this data.

    ...

    As an aside, some of the stroke data in the ErgIQ activity I recorded on my fenix 3 was not correct. The number of strokes was less than half the number recorded by ErgData. I think this is because it is based on data from the watch rather than the C2?

    I get training effect and load in my recorded activities. I'm not sure why it isn't showing for you unless it is a limitation of a specific device. The ErgIQ data comes completely from the PM5 except for HR source when the setting is changed. I use it exclusively because I don't like using the phone and other platforms pick up the data. I'm excited that other platforms are providing some good options to meet users needs and wants ... hopefully there's something for everyone.
  • Just a weird thing I noticed this morning with my Garmin FR935 and ERG IQ. Normally I attach the FR 935 to my Left wrist but as I wanted to test another watch I put it on my Right wrist. I was surprised to discover that Garmin cadence is almost detected 80% of the time (on my Left wrist almost no stroke is detected). However native garmin cadence is twice the stroke rate (!) and there is no detection under 25 spm (FR 935 50 spm). So FR 935 is not so blind when using Erg IQ. I attached a screen capture of the data comparison (Garmin stroke vs ERG IQ speed)

  • Hej,
    Any update on the Garmin allowance for updating the correct fields? :)

    I have a PM4 and a vivoactive HR, sadly ergIQ currently cannot help in connecting.
    Any ideas on how I could connect the watch with the PM4?

    Cheers.

    PM4 is not supported.
  • I have just recently completed what will most likely be the official 1.0.0 release which includes:

    - code optimization to reduce memory needs;
    - addition of Approach S60;
    - addition of ANT+ SmO2 (single sensor at this time for Moxy and BSX);

    Other than Connect related issues revolving around information not being displayed as desired, are there issues people are having? I hope to have a release out in the next couple days once I can get the manual updated and do some testing to verify things are as they should be.

    Are the ERG IQ Smo2 / Thb developer data fields compatible with the Humon sensor data (SMO2 and THgb)?
  • Are the ERG IQ Smo2 / Thb developer data fields compatible with the Humon sensor data (SMO2 and THgb)?

    This is possible depending on how they are moving the ANT data. If it is standard SMO2 ANT data pages then it should work. You'll need to put in the device ID in user settings and should be easy enough to test. I'll reach out to them and see what I can find out.

    PM4 and vivoactive are capable of ANT+. Isn´t it possilbe for the PM4 to send the rowing data via ANT+?
    Sorry, if this is a stupid question, but I have no idea what kind of data transfer happens at ANT+.

    At the end of the review here: https://rowingmusings.wordpress.com/2017/02/23/ergiq-review-connecting-your-pm5-to-your-garmin-watch/
    The problem is described as this: "...however if you have any interest in copying the data elsewhere or you have a PM4 or earlier then ergIQ currently cannot help until Garmin allow the correct fields to be updated"

    For sure I'm repeating what others have already said here, for which I apologise, but...you can synchronize with Garmin Connect, but it does not use or need your Vivoactive. If you get an OTG adapter for your phone, a USB Host cable (or a cable that does both ), you can run the ErgData app which uploads the same data to the Concept2 logbook - you would need an account. You can also set up automatic synchronisation of your C2 logbook with Garmin Connect.

  • I have Concept2 E model (purchased last Christmas) with PM5 and the original Garmin Fenix 5 (about 1.5 years old). I've installed, tried, deleted, reinstalled the ErgIQ app and I can't get it to work! It installs properly, but when I press the Garmin button in the upper right to start my rowing session, nothing happens. No red or green indicator at all. just nothing. Suggestions?

    Thanks. That´s a great answer.
    I´ll go with that.
