Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

  • I'm sorry if this has been answered. To be honest I skimmed a few pages and didn't see anyone having my problem.

I just got a Concept2 with PM5 and wanted to use my 920XT to record workouts. When I go to download in the connect IQ store it says "This app requires an update of your Garmin Forerunner 920XT. Please use Garmin Express to update your Garmin Forerunner 920XT."

I've updated Garmin Express and updated the watch. Watch is on version 9.3 which does seem to be the most current. Do I have to go back to an older version?

Someusershavereported success when this happens with restarting (turn it off completely and then on) the watch after they havecompleted a firmware upgrade before attempting to download anything from the store. Haveyou tried that? If not, try that and let me know if it worked or not.
  • Tried 2 workouts (continuous and interval from PM5 [not Rowpro]) and confirm that version 1.0.1 works like a charm on my F3, VAHR and Edge 520. :)
I have a request for future updates : in the developer data fields could you add 2 columns with the weight corrected speed and weight corrected power, taking into account user weight in Garmin devices (based on C2 weight correction formulas)? because power is ^3 of speed and as a LWT rower I add diffculty to compare rowing power with Bike or (Stryd) running power.

I'll need to see if there is enough room left to do something like this, on the older devices it's getting close to what it can handle.
  • no PM5 and the iOS App kept going it was just 935 that froze and subsequently uploaded just the portion of the row that it did get data for.

There was/is an issue with the PM5 where it stops broadcasting. I'll need to check on the issue status and resolution. This sounds like that is the issue you are experiencing here.

    Hello lcj2,
Could you create a version 2 of your Erg IQ app that maximizes the abilities of the new Garmin wearables and leave the original as it is for the older model Garmin tech? Would there be that much more to improve with the added abilities of the new Garmin wearables? Just asking as I am more than pleased with what you have created. D
  • I have two potential bugs for you:

    1) If you try to record two workouts in a row, the second one will result in an invalid FIT file.

    2) If the PM5 is controlled by a mobile app via Bluetooth, and that mobile app triggers the end of the workout, Erg IQ will crash and fail to record the workout.

If you can provide the contents of /GARMIN/APPS/CIQ_LOG.TXT in a PM that would be great. Also, if you could provide a little more information about the configuration your using that would be good.
  • First off, thanks for an amazing app. I know hours must have gone into it. I have finally mostly got it working for me (Foreruner735XT, latest C2 firmware) but have found the saved data empty of everything except the total time. The watch screen displays the workout data, but the watch history then shows only the duration of the activity and nothing else. (For ages I thought the watch screen was blank until I realised the default setting was for a *white* screen!) Any ideas?

The PM5 is controlled by the LiveRowing app via Bluetooth. Before I push start in LiveRowing, I get Erg IQ all ready, connected to the PM5 and displaying "ROW". Then I push start in LiveRowing. The workout starts. Data is relayed both to the LiveRowing app and Erg IQ.
When the workout is complete, LiveRowing tells the PM5 the workout has ended.

At that point Erg IQ crashes.
