Now .. Your Heart and the Vivoactive HR device teams up to 'Measure your Sleep'

Get HR Sleep in the Garmin Connect IQ Store here ..

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/b...2-c9fe3f777fc0

Now measure your Sleep Performance with HR Sleep .. see how your sleep improves over time using your HR data.

Be sure that your battery is charged to at least 30% before running HR Sleep overnight. That green light .. is a little hungry.

Sleep Zones Example ..

Set Minimum Sleep HR - 40

Sleep Zone 0 .. less than 40 bpm
Sleep Zone 1 .. 40 - 43 bpm
Sleep Zone 2 .. 44 - 47 bpm
Sleep Zone 3 .. 48 - 51 bpm
Sleep Zone 4 .. 52 - 55 bpm
Sleep Zone 5 .. over 55 bpm

Thank you ..

Thanks for the app, very interesting. Too bad it doesn't work with the FR235 (memory too limited) but I borrowed a VAHR to try it. Too much time in SZ0 with the 45 setting. Will lower it the next time.

You want most of your time in Sleep Zones 0-2 .. so yes you may want to adjust a bit so suit your personal preferences.

I was asked why I did not use the Garmin RHR value .. and really the answer is pretty simple. You want consistency on this one and with that number always moving .. it would defeat the purpose of the application.

Maybe that is why Garmin labels sleep as light and deep .. cause without describing exactly what they are (and some numbers attached), you can never be wrong.

The one thing .. if you are on a 'Fitness Journey' as many are here, your HR at night will drop as you get fitter, and you may need to adjust again. However .. that is a very very good thing.
  • Yes I took that trip 4 years ago, one of the better decisions I've made ;-) So I adjusted the setting to 40 and I'm now spending most of my time in SZ1/SZ2. Can't check the details as I'd left the .txt file in the APP folder and not moved it to the /logs folder...

There's no easy way to make HR Always or HR Sleep work with the FR235 I take it? Well there may be an F5 in my future so that might help ;-)

I cannot see it happening, in fact I am going to be abandoning Garmin very soon and going to Apple .. as I have made $2 with Garmin apps in the last 9 months. I have no job .. and honestly I need to make some money. It is sad .. but just the way that it is.
  • A bit sad indeed but you gotta do what you gotta do. Clearly the Garmin "store" is no equivalent to Apple's or Garmin's and developing apps only really makes sense if you need/use them yourself.

I am new to Garmin as of a few months ago and have found your sleep app to be among my favorites. I especially appreciate the frequent updates and your responsiveness to questions. Garmin should be paying you because the app is so much better than their own sleep tracker. Very sorry to hear that you will be leaving us! :(

You may see that I have deleted some of the threads in regards to HR Sleep. The reason .. I was asked about GREEN being an indicator of better sleep and if I had any scientific evidence to support that.

I do owe my users transparency. I will state that I am no scientist and the data given by HR Sleep is not in any way to be used for medical purposes. As a result, I have made the decision to remove information that may be taken by some as medical in nature.

However .. I have been tracking my sleep for many months now (the whole time with a Beddit sleep tracker, and later with the Beddit and Vivoactive HR combined) and have noticed distinct items. First, if you are sick you likely will see elevated HR values. As well .. if you are like me and have insomnia, your HR could be such that it is elevated.

As well .. I never dream, some may say an indicator of lack of REM sleep. Thus .. I do see lower HR values.
However that may be also caused from doing lots of cardio. Never a bad thing to have a strong heart.
  • Tried the app last night and I have to say I am impressed. Very good quality programming, but that applies to more of your apps.:) Sad to hear you are abandoning making apps for Garmin and moving to Apple but I understand why you are doing this. If you are into this for making money, the Garmin Connect IQ appstore is flawed.

You should apply for an (app) developer job with Garmin! They could use a few more good programmers I think.

    Good luck and thanks!

Thanks .. I try. The progression to the other guys will be slow, so you will still see me here and I will likely never totally be gone from here. As I stated, you are not likely to see too much new, but you just never know what I may think up. The Garmin store .. well honestly, people expect free .. and a pay model IMHO would not work here. Apple .. people expect to have to pay.

Feel free to leave me a review .. as that is what drives more people to download and enjoy the apps.

Oh, I am not in this to make money .. that would just be a bonus. The main reason .. it so that people will enjoy what I create. But .. due to the present situation, the money making thing is being pushed up higher on the priority list. I hope that the employment thing will change in the next week or two, as I am working on it.

I already posted a review and you already responded.:D I created the *.txt file in the APPS\LOGS directory to capture the data. Btw, if you are going to build iOS apps in the future, you could maybe develop an App that retrieves this log data from the watch via bluetooth and then presents the data in some nice ways (e.g. graphs where you could see the average/minimum Sleep HR over time). I already use another iOS app (ConnectStats) to display activities in more detail, but that gets the data from Garmin Connect. If you can access data on the watch via a bluetooth connection from an iPhone/iPad, I don't know.

Just a reminder .. there are 4 screens that you can swipe to in HR Sleep. Be sure to check out them all.
