Just some information in regards to how to set up data logging .. To do data logging with Minutes you need to do the following .. - Ensure Data Log is checked in settings for Minutes in Garmin Connect Mobile / Garmin Express. It will retain your setting.
    - Connect your Vivoactive HR to your computer via your USB charging cable. Sorry, it must be a computer, smartphones will not work.
    - Navigate to the Garmin\Apps\Logs folder
    - Create a text file named the same as your MINUTES program file. See details below.
    - Exit .. and enjoy.

    - Your Minutes intensity minutes data will now be logged when you start the application and at the 0 second mark during your activity, right after your intensity minutes are awarded.

    Re data logging,

--- see post 15 below for data logging file format ---

Re the data log text file, DO NOT delete the file, as the Vivoactive will not recreate it, but will skip the data logging if it is not there. You should not have to recreate it if the Minutes version changes as the program name should remain the same.

Re the minutes file .. when you connect to your Vivoactive HR, it may look like this. The photo below is the Garmin\Apps folder.
Note the NAME of the Minutes prg file as you will need this for your data logging.

You need to name the text file the same as the PRG file for Minutes.

So for the above .. if the above was your 'Minutes program file', you would need to name your data logging text file as 68QN3328.txt

This text file goes into the GARMIN\APPS\LOGS folder

If you want to be really sure you have the right file .. you can open the file in Notepad and search for "data_log" .. as below. If you find it .. you have the right file. Both Minutes and Minutes Gym are the same in this regard.

Do not edit the file as you will need to install it again if you do. Sorry .. there is no way around this. The steps we need to go through for our data. :)

    Enjoy

I gave minutes a try at work today. I am at work so didn't have my usb cable so no log setup yet.

I like how it tracks during an activity but we can't view other data during a walk, run, etc. Would be great to view other data screens and get lap notifications too.

    Also set the activity type!
    Maybe future updates?

Thanks it seems to work well. Cant wait to setup a log file and give it another try.

Ok that fine...it is still a cool app I agree. Does the job so far. I need to get the log file setup. Fun app to experiment with...nice job!

I am not saying that it is not possible .. but likely by then I will have some other weird and wacky project to spend my time on. :)

The thing about this one .. finding how Garmin does it (assigns the intensity minutes). The only thing that is a pain .. waiting the 10 min before you get data in most cases.
Later today I am going to make a template .. with my HR readings and start logging if I get No, Moderate or Vigorous minutes at that bpm level. At least we know that after a certain level they will all be vigorous.

Oh I was going to say feel free to post anything you have as far as data on this thread .. the more data we have the better. A lot better than in the VAHR forum where the thread is going to get lost in the mess. I still think that we will find it something like .. less than 50% is no minutes, 50-59% is likely going to be moderate, 60% and above vigorous.

Actually I am going to do a new version .. and add the percentage of maxHR to the data logging for the HR value indicated in the data log. That will help things. I have no room on the screen .. but in the data logging will work. (percentage of max HR is now added to both Minutes and Minutes Gym in the data logging)

LOL...I can see your mind working on the next project. Its great you are creating these tools. I am out of town the next few days but will be using your app...post when I get back. Holiday in the states this weekend.

    Cheers. Ron

I really don't think changing RHR or max HR does anything for intensity minutes. I still think they use your age. Try changing your age to 15 years old. I don't think they want people to be able to edit intensity minutes or modify it by setting unrealistic HR values. Same thing they do with steps. You can't edit it! I hope I.am wrong but I came to that conclusion back running on 2.60.

Was away a few days so hope to get back to trying these apps this week.

EDIT .... GARMIN does have a bug in Intensity Minutes. Your Moderate and Vigorous Minutes for the week may be wrong, although the weekly total will be correct.

I am sending Garmin a bug report.

New version today. Improved data logging, no other changes.

The data logging will now be as follows .. as of Version 2.60 - Sept 11/2016

    Year/Month/Day Hour:Min:Sec AMPM
    Moderate Activity Minutes for Day
    Vigorous Activity Minutes for Day
    Activity Minutes Total for Day
    Maximum HR
HR at Start of Previous Minute
HR at End of Previous Minute
Zone of HR at Start of Previous Minute
Percent of max HR of Start of Previous Minute
Zone of HR for End of Previous Minute
Percent of max HR for End of Previous Minute

Remember the data is ALWAYS at the end of the minute where Intensity Minutes are awarded (they are awarded at the 0 second mark. It is also at this time when data logging happens). So the data log shows what happened in the previous minute.

    Some sample data ..

    2016/09/07 3:42:03 PM,0,0,0,180,0,56,Zone 0,0,Zone 0,0 // Program start here, note 0 starting HR.
    2016/09/07 3:43:00 PM,0,0,0,180,56,53,Zone 0,29,Zone 0,29
    2016/09/07 3:44:00 PM,0,0,0,180,53,59,Zone 0,33,Zone 0,33
    2016/09/07 3:45:00 PM,0,0,0,180,59,57,Zone 0,32,Zone 0,33

Finally had a chance to boot my pc since last week. Add txt files for both apps in my log folder. Will start logging on the next activity.

Do I need to delete the contents of the txt file after each activity or does it keep recording every activity?

I ended up selecting and reinstalling the apps so that I knew which files they are based on install date.

Doesn't seem like apps are updating lately when we sync.

    Thanks, Ron

Reason I asked about the app update was that one of my apps does not appear to be updating when I use the download button. Your apps do!

Simple heart watch face seems to need an update every time I use express. Not sure why that happens it doesn't appear to need an update. I should probably tell Jim about that one.

There's likely something screwy going on with the app store or maybe GE or the FW (I've only heard of this with the va-hr). But the way it works is you should not do a new download to get an update. Garmin Express will do the update (if you're set for auto update). If you use GCM/iOS, there is an "update Available" button when you look at the app. On GCM/Android (and you can't use Garmin Express), the best is to uninstall and reinstall.

In fact, downloading something that's already installed may be why this happens. GE knows it's got an update for something on the watch, and also thinks it's got something new.

If you use GE, the updates should come through fine on their own. GCM, it's manual.
