Now on a Vivoactive HR near you .. DROP

Get it here .. https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/4d0ab435-0f2d-4c93-8eae-368fcda9c64e

If your heart is important to you .. time to make it better. Time for DROP.

Remember .. if Drop drops out before 2 minutes (no pun intended), you need to update your Vivoactive HR firmware to at least 2.65 beta.

Thank you
VivoactiveHRGuy

Note .. screen shots are subject to change, see full change log below for updated details. Screen shots may be simulated to show application operation.

Now .. measure your Heart Rate Recovery (HRR) for 1 and 2 minute time frames.

Drop has been tested on firmware versions 2.60, 2.65 beta, 2.71 beta, 2.74 beta, 2.80, 2.90, 3.30 .... to 3.90

FULL VERSION HISTORY - CHANGE LOGS

[Version 1.19] June 7 / 2017

- Fixed a bug where the app would crash with the new Vivoactive HR firmware. It was my fault and I do apologize.

[Version 1.18] March 10 / 2017

- Data logging will now happen at the 120 second mark only, and not when you exit the main screen.
[Version 1.17] November 8 / 2016

- Screen layout improvements. No other changes.
[version 1.16] October 28 / 2016

- Changed Drop startup routine to be like my other applications.

- Improved exit routine with no summary screen when no starting HR value received.

[version 1.13] August 7/2016

- Changed summary screen to display more useful data. Now included starting HR values as well as 20-120 second readings. Thank you to LARS for the great suggestion.

- If you exit early by accident .. the summary screen will now update your Drop HR data on that screen as well. So do not move unless you really want to exit. ;-)

- Small cosmetic changes

[version 1.11] August 6/2016

- Added more data to export option. Now date and time, starting heart rate, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 second heart rate values will be logged.

[version 1.10] July 27,2016

- screen text change and drop data export formatting change. Note data logging exports your actual heart rate values not the 'drop' numbers from the application.

[version 1.08] July 1, 2016

- improved exit. It will now not exit until the back button is pressed.

[version 1.07] June 28/2016

- added data logging as outlined in post below.
- altered status bar on main data screen
- added vibrate on start and bye screens
- text change on welcome screen

[version 1.06] June 28/2016

- cosmetic changes only

[version 1.05 - June 27/2016]

- Measures heart rate recovery for 1 and 2 minute times.
- Shows heart rate compared to starting heart rate value as you are measuring ( + / - )
- Summary screen with resulting 1/2 minute data displayed.
- Easy to understand layout and user interface.
- Status bar to help you wait for those 2 minutes.
- Support for OHR
- Tap to turn on backlight.

Application Details

Configuration:

No configuration required

Requirements:

Ant+ Heart Rate strap optional .. but highly recommended for best results. Optical Heart Rate (OHR) will work as well (Vivoactive HR 2.65 beta or newer firmware recommended for OHR use), however I still recommend using a HR strap if available.

Remember .. the more the drop, the better your heart.
Not a substitute for real medical advice. :)

  • Drop using Vivoactive HR built in HR monitor

    Hi,

I am very excited to get this app to work for me, but currently, after I finish my run and my HR is at the top of the range, I must finish my running app, start up Drop, and... then wait for 2 to 3 minutes whilst Drop gets ready to start - by which time my pulse is already near to normal, and I am relaxed.

What am I missing? Does this app only work with HR belts (I shall try that next but it would be a shame to not be able to use the built in HR, even if it is not super accurate).
My FW version is 3.30 on a brand new Vivoactive HR.
    Thanks for any news, Julian

You know .. the answer, and what I have done for some time now, is use an Ant+ strap for exercise 100% of the time .. not only for accuracy issues (the OHR still needs a lot of work) but also for speed. It is almost instant. I do 100% agree that if you do not use a chest strap it is rather pointless in an app such as this where time is important. But it is hard for me to tell everyone to buy a chest strap due to the failures of the OHR.
  • Thanks for the answer

Thanks Vivoactiveguy, I shall give it a go with my strap. Good luck with getting the OHR working too.

The OHR is not something I can do anything about .. that is a Garmin thing, and honestly it just takes time to get your HR reading, and something that I do not expect to change.

Anyone that has upgraded to the new 3.90 firmware .. the one benefit that I see is that the HR detection is faster, sometimes like 3 seconds. That is a great thing for an application like Drop.

  • I just wanted to say that I downloaded your App and just tested it successfully. Looking to make it a part of my post exercise routine.

Many thanks for developing these Apps.
