A timer app to record your Tabata workout or any kind of intervals. Easy to use, with advanced features to customize.

In the app, press 'menu' for settings. The app follows native apps behavior and records a .FIT file for you workout effort with a lap marked per interval and rest. Interval time, rest time, repetitions, sets, set rest time, activity type, warm-up/cool-down, countdown and GPS on/off are configurable in the app.

! Note: To change settings, first start the app on the watch, then press menu (on e.g. Fenix this is long press up). No settings are available in the Garmin Connect mobile app.

Sound and vibration follows the system settings (on e.g. Fenix Settings/System/Sounds)

On start, a configurable countdown (3s default) allows you to get ready before time counting starts.

When Warm up / Cool down is enabled; pressing "start", starts the activity and the warm up counter begins. "Back" ends the warm up and the configured workout begins. Once done, cool down begins and is ended by pressing "back".

During a workout, pressing "back" will skip the current interval or rest.

When GPS is turned on, a good GPS signal is marked by a beep and a green progress bar for a few seconds.

Note, the activity types on Garmin connect does not always map 100% to activities on other services (e.g. use Fitness in the app to record a "workout" on Strava).

Note, wrist based HR is not great when lifting weights or doing CrossFit like workouts, use a chest strap monitor for increased accuracy.

  • How the activities are loggeng into GC? stenght, fitness?

It depends on what activity type you have selected in the app (in settings, long press UP). Personally I have it set to "Fitness" (when doing a strenght tabata) since Strava then knows it's a workout. "Training" is also logged as strength training on Garmin Connect. Pick whatever suits you best. Dont forget to enable GPS when doing running etc to log distance.

Hi, Is there a way to setup multiple intervals using this app? I would like to setup a workout like this on the watch directly:
    Interval 1: 2 min
    Rest time: 1 min
    Interval 2: 1 min
    Rest time: 1 min

    Is this possible?

    Thanks!
  • vibration alert not working?

I downloaded tabata to my Fenix 3HR a couple of days ago, set it up for cardio workout and it all worked fine including a vibration alert at the end of interval and rest period.

there was an automatic update on my Fenix yesterday and since then the vibration alert doesnt work?

I've got in and tried different interval and set periods, I've even gone into main app settings but the vibration alert still doesnt work?

    Any ideas please?

I do not have any plans for "complex" configurations like this.

I believe there was some issue with vibrations on that update, try restarting the watch.
  • Suggested Improvement

Good app that works well and provides good information. Thanks. Is there any way to string together multiple exercises with a rest period between? (This may have been asked already, so consider this another request for the improvement.) For example, five different exercises, each in a tabata fashion, with a 1 minute rest between - and then save all of that as one workout. As it stands now, I would have to restart the app after each exercise and I have five different exercises. Thanks again.

You have the option to add multiple sets with a set rest time, but then you have to do each tabata workout set the same way (e.g. 8sets, 1min rest of 6x30s+10s rest). Looks for "Sets" and "Sets rest time" in the tabata app settings. Doing more "complicated" variants could be done in Garmin Connect's workout editor or maybe in some of the other workout apps.
  • Updated to version 0.0.7, Added Warm up / Cool down option.
  • WarmUp and CoolDown Update

    Hi Efflon,

thanx again for the new update. After implementing the WarmUp and CoolDown option, your App is quite perfekt and I like the way to decide by my own when i stop both times and start the tabata or finish the run. Just a little suggestion, i would like to see my pace and distance beside the time during warmup and cooldown. :-)
    Kind regards
    Thomas F.

    P. S. Its time and definitely worth to make a little donation. :-)
