App: Hike2

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

  • Correct.  But based on the breadcrumb trail or map, you can follow your way back.  Setting waypoints along the way could also help.

  • Does the activity recorded factor into the “Training Status” stats that Garmin Connect provides? Thanks!

  • It's not that it factors it in, it's if it influences training status, and I believe it does (I've not checked specifically).  It would also depend on the device, as not all support training status.

Hello, I’m new to app download. I nearly got lost yesterday, as the trails are unmarked. I downloaded your feature, where do I see your hike on my 935 watch?

    Hi, thanks for the app!!

I have VA4 and have the same issue as someone else reported: if I pause for lunch or something, it will exit the app and I have to restart it. It always happens for stops that are longer than a few minutes. Any advice?

  • There is no way to do a "resume later" with any CIQ device app.

When you stop for lunch, simply pause Hike2, and resume it when you're ready  to go.  There is no timeout in Hike2 where it automatically saves the activity as there is in native apps.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I don't think I explained myself.

I don't stop. I pause. While on Pause mode it somehow exists after a while.

Basically I can't track a whole hike if it includes a pause of more than a few minutes.

  • It shouldn't unless you touch the screen or something.

On the va4, when you press the upper button, it pauses, and there is a menu.  At that point, if you touch the screen by mistake, things can happen.

But, if you press the bottom button, the menu goes away and the recording is still paused (you see the title on screens have a pink/red background).  then if you accidentally touch the screen, the worst that happens is you move to another screen.  Press the upper button when you want to resume, and select that menu item.

Cool I'll try that next time I hike. Thanks!

Is there a way to go to the main menu while it's paused? Say I want to check notification or change music?
