App: Hike2

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

  • That does sound like there's a problem with CIQ apps using the external HRM, as it worked with a native app. I;ll run some tests on wednesday to confirm it and then report the bug to Garmin. As I mentioned, I know there's a Firmware problem with CIQ apps and the Tempe, so it's likely connected.
  • I've reproduced the problem with the external HRM on the va3 and verified it's not unique to Hike2, and filed a bug report with Garmin.
  • Thanks, Jim. With luck, the 2.6 firmware released today will address the problem: Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60
  • First of all, thank you for your excellent app... I do à lot of hiking/walking and It does all I need! Great job.
I have tried it tonight for the first time on my VA3 for a small 1hr walk. I read this forum thread about using WP, ie do a walk, record WPs, save with WPs and next time you walk again, you will be notified when approaching the WPs.
    Quick question on the VA3.
How do you record manually a WP?
I tried double tap on the screen (manual lap) but nothing happened. No WPs recorded other than the automatic 1km ones.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.
    Tony
  • The WP's are Hike2 specific. (they are saved in hike2 and only used by hike2). When you are out and running the app (recording), on a va3, the right swipe will mark a waypoint. If you aren't using auto-lap, they are also marked as a "lap/split" in Garmin Connect, so you can see them o the map of your activity. (with auto laps, the laps/splits are marked at the auto lap interval.

when you go to save the activity, there's "Save" but there is also "Also Save WPs". If you've been marking WPs, use the "Also Save WP's option"
  • Thanks, I understand the Hike2 WPs principal.
The only piece of info I was missing was the "Right Swipe" to record a WP manually on the Vivoactive 3.
I tried to swipe from left to right and it go back to the clock, as expected. I did try the other way around!

Once again, great work, thank you, I will do the same walk on Monday night and will try again.
  • A very useful app.

On my vivoactive 3 (China version), I found a very strange problem. The app cannot exit after saving a record because swiping right on the screen does nothing. But if I discard the record it will be ok. The same thing also happened on other 3rd party apps.

Maybe it is a bug in firmware (SW version 2.50)?but however, is it possible to add "Quit" option in app menu?

    Many thanks.
  • This was a problem in the 2.40 Firmware for the non China versions and was fixed in the 2.60 Firmware. And it also happened with other 3rd party apps. The best thing to do is probably just wait for a firmware update for your watch.
  • Thank you for quick response, waiting for the new firmware.
  • How do i add gpx map from a trail into app?
