Chart Data Field

This is basically the "chart" page from Hike but as a Data Field! So you can use it with standard activities like Running and Biking.

The same basic display as Hike. The blue dot is where you started, green is where you are, and your current heading, and the chart is drawn based on your saved GPS location every minute. Due to memory constraints of a DF, it can only save about 4 hr's worth of location info (Hike can go 10+ hours).

One thing people may want is to mark where laps occurred, but right now I can't get that info, but when I can, I'll add it!

Note: if you were a beta tester, delete the file I sent you from your watch before downloading!

This needs a big data field layout, so 1 or 2 fields on a 23x/630 or 2 on a vivoactive-HR (I'm testing 1 and 2 field layouts on the vivoactive, but that's not yet available)

  • Version 0.12!

A couple of changes, but many may not see it right now....

    • increased the time that new points in the chart will be added. Only for the va-hr and 735xt, as they allow more memeory for data fields.
    • Lap marks! Right now this is dependent on your watch and it's firmware level, but given the right combination, a dot will appear on the chart for laps! (manual or auto)

  • This field is awesome. Should have been part of the 630 to begin with. Also, this helped me realize lap notifications had been added for my own fields. Thanks.

So what happens after 4 hours? Does it deal with it gracefully? Throw away every other data point so it can keep going? Are memory limits per field or will this impact other CIQ fields as it uses more memory?
  • While you are heading to 4hrs, you see the graph. When I don't have memory left, it displays the same graph, but there is a straight line from the last point I saved and your current location.

For devices with the 2.1.x version of Connect IQ, I can save things much longer for the chart chart. There a few ways I can extend it on other devices, but I haven't' tested out any of them yet. How long would you want it to chart?
  • maybe double that to 8 hours. The watch isn't likely to last on a charge longer than that if I'm running CIQ fields. But I often do runs or hikes between 4 and 8 hours.

I'll see what I can do. A simple change could just be only saving a spot every 2 minutes instead of every minute (user configurable). What device do you have, as it may already allow for 8hrs.

Also for hiking, look at my Hike or Hike2 in the app store. It's got the chart and saves data for MUCH longer already!
  • I have a 630. Ideally it would do something along the lines of start off at a data point every minute (or even more) and then every time the buffer fills, throw away every other data point and double the recording interval. This would have the benefit of giving a bit more detail with short activities where you are zoomed in more, and less with longer activities where you are so zoomed out, you wouldn't see a lot of detail anyways.

How can I activate "Chart" data field?

    I am a beginner to use va-hr.
How can I activate "Chart" data field? What button should I press?
  • It's a data field, so you add it in something like the native running app. You do it in the same way that you would change any data field (details in the manual for the va-hr), but it need a layout with either 1 or 2 data field on the screen.
  • Is it possible to use this datafield in combination with other datafields (I am using Flexirunner)? Or will watch memory be overtaxed?
  • You just have to have them on different screens, as it looks like flexirunner uses a 1 field layout. Most watches allow 2 connect iq data fields per activity, while some allow 3.
