WatchFace: Activity Classic

This is a thread for discussion of the Activity Classic Watch face.

The Activity Classic watch face combines the simplicity and readability of an analogue watch dial with the activity tracking capabilities of the Garmin devices.

Features include:
- Dual time / UTC hour hand with configurable style, offset and highlight colour

- Optional moon phase indicator in place of numeral 6 or 9.

- Top left quadrant:- Green/Orange/Red arc shows battery charge status.

- Top right quadrant:- Notification arc in top right quadrant which shows the count of unread notifications. The arc can be enabled/disabled and its colour can be selected using the watch settings in the Garmin Connect mobile app. The first notification appears as a large bar between 1-5 minutes (to make it harder to ignore). Each subsequent notification appears as an additional 1 minute segment.

- Bottom right quadrant:- Blue arc shows steps indicating progress towards daily goal.

- Bottom left quadrant:- Red arc shows move bar: triggered when it is time to move.

- Show / hide battery and feet icons using app. setting or the 12/24hour system time setting. (The battery and steps icons are hidden in 12 hour mode).

- Triangle at 12 o'clock indicates phone connection status: A blue triangle when the phone is connected and a red exclamation mark when disconnected.

- Configurable second-hand style (arrow or pointer)

- Configurable main hand styles

- Smart date placement: Date moves to 9 O'clock positition to avoid being obscured when hands are at 3 O'clock.

- Second hand is displayed when watch enters high power mode (as with all watch faces this is under control of the the watch which switches modes automatically when it detects gestures - see https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?300514-Watch-hands-disappear-after-10-seconds).

New idea

Hello, Milos here.

Wanted to give some feedback. I love this watch face. Very stylish and nice!

If I would suggest something it would be two things.

1. Indicate when new message come in. Could be a bar from 1-3 o´clock increase one step for each message, from 1-15 minutes... If 15 or more message are present, the bar is full from 1-15 minutes.

2. An option to remove the symbos fror steps, charge, Move! and evntualla new messages, even when in 24 hours mode.

Apologies for the slow response... these are both good ideas.

I need to do some investigation to figure out if it's possible to do the message count, but making the icon settings configurable shouldn't be too difficult so I'll give that a go

Version 1.31 now available - configurable and with Fenix HR support

New version 1.31 has been uploaded

The main features are

Configurable - use the Garmin Connect Mobile app on your phone to configure the watch face.
Configuration options are:
- Toggle smart date placement... choose whether the date moves when it would be obscured by the hands, or if it remains on the right of the dial.
- Toggle icons on and off (or have them configured by the 12/24 hour time setting as compatible with earlier versions)
Support for Fenix 3 HR.

Note that you may need to uninstall then reinstall the watch face to pick up the new version.

Yes, I had a look at the API and it looks like the Toybox::System::DeviceSettings::notificationCount() method will provide the information I need, so I will have a go at implementing a notification bar between 12 and 3.

I'm quite busy with other things at the moment, and the first thing I want to do on the watch is to add support for the semi-round forerunners, but bear with me and I will get to it eventually ;-)

Enhancement List

Here's my current list of planned enhancements:

Add UTC hand
Add selectable hand styles (sword hand, arrow hand etc.)
Add Sunrise / Sunset indicator
Modifications to notification bar - primary / secondary colours and notifier / counter with 1 starting from minute 6.
Add option for alarm indicator
Add option to display activity tracking on / off icon
App needs a on/off switch for the Move function. Do not always want to see the MOVE function and can be annoying. A simple ON/Off switch would be great ! - Fenix-2082
Have the step gauge turn to green when the goal is reached - Iyarri
Support for rectangular watch faces like Vivoactive HR - ManniAT
