Configure Developer Environment for API level 1.4.0

Hey Guys,

I just got my hands on a Fenix 3 HR watch and I love.

I appear to be a software developer (Embedded C, C++, but also Algorithms, C# .NET etc) and just found out that I could customize my watch with new apps, faces, widget and data fields using Monkey C which should not be a big challenge for me.

Particularly, as a surfer and kitesurfer I have some ideas that I'd like to try and I could not find stuff implemented in the store (wave and wind prediction reporting with windy or windguru, or try implementing a kitesurf application with jump height etc if I feel ambitious enough ;-) ).

The thing is that my watch only supports API Level 1.4.0 (quite old if I understand well) so I would like to know where to start to develop for MY watch:

Will Dev environment setup for current SDK (v 4.0.4) work for me?
Where can I find template apps or example to begin with ?

Thanks for the answer. I had already checked that when I asked the question, since then I found the VSCode Monkey C Extension by Garmin which is amazingly simple to use.

Just have to be familiar with CTRL+SHIFT+P in vscode ;-)

Building for the Fenix 3 HR is quite transparent, the versions appear to be handled automatically.

The current SDK is 4.0.4, and there is also the Eclipse 4.0.4 CIQ plugin. I find Eclipse easier to use. And make sure you download the device files with the SDK Manager.

With it you can build for any CIQ device, and the API level will be defined correctly. If you're using code you pulled from some place, it may include things you can't use on a CIQ 1 device. The API doc as "since X.Y.Z" so you can see what's not available for a CIQ1 device.
