Widget: Position (with address)

Hi there,

This is a support thread for the Position widget:

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/3ab1e334-4181-45a3-8bec-a42b8955733e

I am quite responsive and very interested to hear your experience and issues with the app.
To help me resolve your problem as quickly as possible, don't forget to note which device and language you use.

Thanks, David
  • Getting updates over GCM for anything CIQ is a bit odd, but instead of uninstalling and re-installing, plug into a machine with Garmin Express, as it's really good at doing the updates. That way you don't lose all your app-settings, etc for CIQ apps.

Good tip, thanks. It feels so old-school I always forget it :-)

    It works!!

    Thank you so much!!

    Hi,

there is a new version in the store. It has very minor visual adjustments to keep it consistent with my upcoming Waypoint navigation app and includes some code refactoring and memory optimizations. But most importantly, it now converts GPS coordinates from DD.DDDDDD to DD MM.MMMM and DD MM SS.SS by itself instead of relying on CIQ, and adds degree (°), minute (') and second (") symbols by its own. Usage of these symbols can be disabled in the settings. Why all of that? Some users reported issues caused by device inability to display degree (°) character. If you had the same issue, you should now be able to use the app - just disable usage of these symbols using GCM or GE!

    Have a beautiful day!

Great! Did you have to disable the symbols?

I don't have to disable the symbols.

    I can see deg/min/sec normally

Magic... thanks for letting me know.
  • It doesn't return the address back to me, although I used to work on its initial release. I tried to disable the symbols, to see if it will make any difference, but no. Any ideas what to look for?

    Hi Dimitiris,

Sorry for the late response. Do you still have the issue? Sometimes, it is just some weird state of the watch or Garmin Connect app on the phone, in which case the restart of both devices should help. It may be something else - I have read somewhere that the latest SDK may have some new issue with performing JSON requests, on some devices... What watch exactly and what kind of phone (iOS, Android, WP/WM) do you have?

    Thanks,
    David
  • Hi sousekd,

thanks you for getting back to me. Just restarted both my watch and my phone to no avail. It's a F3 (fw6.92) and a MotoG 2015 on stock 5.1.1

I know it was working before, I was one of the first to download it when it was realised, but something happened on the way and I can't tell whether it's the firmware of the watch, the SDK or GCM. Other widgets that perform JSON requests work fine on my watch, but they have not been updated for a while, so, maybe, they were compiled with a prior version of the SDK.

Thanks for all the info. It's so weird. It works well on my F3 6.90 and iPhone. I will try to recompile with previous version of SDK and let you know when it is in the store. Desperate try, but I have no idea what else to try...
