Widget: Position (with address)

Hi there,

This is a support thread for the Position widget:

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/3ab1e334-4181-45a3-8bec-a42b8955733e

I am quite responsive and very interested to hear your experience and issues with the app.
To help me resolve your problem as quickly as possible, don't forget to note which device and language you use.

Thanks, David

    thank you..

If It would be hard, don't try. It is not important that 2 of characters don't appear for me.
I thought maybe other people can have some other character problem and easy to fix.
    Thank you again.

Hi, I think you have the previous version. Try to update it manually using GCM or GE. Let me know if it helped or not. Thanks, David

Yep, that did the trick. Thank you.
  • Hi Volker,

I did not planned to. I was thinking Epix has all the GPS features you can imagine and this app does bring nothing to mix. Was I wrong? It really should not take too much work to make Epix version. But I cannot test it, and I do not want to release buggy version. If you will be happy to test it for me prior to release, I will make it...

    David

Just saw that you have already added an epix version! Works fine on my epix. Like that little gadget! Great work!

    regards

    Volker
  • Mini maps would be great

    David,
Thanks for your hard work and time.
I'm all for the Mini maps! Large city names would be nice also.
  • I also like the mini-maps idea (although I have got an epix with maps). What is your plan for the mini-maps, how would they work/look? Can you give an example please? UTM/MRGS coordinates would be nice, also an app version sounds very interssting and a separate screen to display address without scrolling (3-4 lines) sounds also great;)

This is really absolutely great work so far! Keep on doing!!! :)

    Great widget

    Hi Sousekd,

Firstly great app, love all its features, only bit of feedback. Would it be possible to zoom into the basemap to indicate your position within a country with perhaps slight more detail like main cities and borders. If this were possible it's all one needs.

    Thanks once again.

    Hi there,

I have published a new widget for the Fenix 3 and similar watches. It is called "Position" and it displays your GPS coordinates and an address by using OpenStreetMap reverse geocoding (if connected).

    https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/3ab1e334-4181-45a3-8bec-a42b8955733e

I would love to hear some feedback. Is there something specific you don't like? Would you like to have a separate "address only" widget, which would make the address more easily accessible/readable, or maybe just a second screen for that purpose? Any other comments, ideas, bugs?

    Thanks, enjoy,
    David

    Hi,

I plan to add more detailed maps for each continent. I am unable to have offline maps for all countries around the world - there is simply not enough memory available to Connect IQ application. The application would need to download the more detailed map of the current position from the internet. It would certainly be possible to develop, but the question is whether it is worth the effort - when you are online and need a map, you can use your phone... What I can do in the future and I am considering all the options now is to allow you to prepare your trip in advance - that way the app would only need to download maps for the trip and still could be usable without internet connection.

    Hi,

this is very strange :-). Please can you send me a photo of the widget, how it looks on your watch? In the meantime, try to change the coordinates format to another option using application settings (accessible via the Garmin Connect Mobile application or Garmin Express). Also, make sure you have the latest firmware version installed on your Vivoactive and latest GCM version installed on your phone.

I hope we can figure it out...

    Hi,

Thanks, I am glad you like it. The simple idea is that the application would not have just one world map included, but (very short) list of maps. Let's say USA, North America, South America, West Europe, Australia, Oceania, Asia... and that's it +/-. Then when you would like to see the map, application would know on which of these maps you are. So for example, if you are in New York, the app would know you are on World Map, North America Map and USA Map. You as a user would be able to switch between maps.

So this is something quite simple to develop and I plan to do it when I take break from another (waypoint navigation) app I am developing...
The other much more sophisticated thing I would like to develop is to allow you to prepare your trip in advance - and the app would download the more detailed maps for the area you are traveling to, for fully offline use. But I cannot promise any date for this at this point.

    Best Regards,
    David
