Watchface: Astropium

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have the honor to introduce you to the Astropium, the watchface that will allow you to observe the beauty of astronomy.

See all the main astronomical events on 24-hour dial:

• sunrise
• sunset
• twilight (civil)
• visible day period
• visible day change
• moon phase
• moonrise
• moonset
• period moon is above horizon

Note:
Watch face uses last known location to calculate astronomical data. After fresh start of watch, you may need to launch any location-tracking activity first to obtain a position info. Watch face itself doesn't have permission to query location.

Designed with infographics in mind:

• day of week indicator gives you a quick notion of remaining week
• battery bar is embedded in heliotropium logo
• colored charts provide better and quicker value perception

Designed with fitness in mind:

• steps and floors goal progress will be shown automatically when Activity Tracking is activated

Designed with efficiency in mind:
• all the astronomical data is calculated once per day and then being redrawn from the buffer
• all possible clock hand positions are hard-coded, so that your watch doesn't have to calculate anything
These extreme optimisations allowed to achieve 3 weeks on one charge in watch-only mode on vívoactive 3.

Designed with heart: if this beauty and complexity of our Solar System was given to us for free, how can we charge you for just the tool, that measures and displays it's parameters? This watch face is free and will always stay free with full functionality! If you would like to support us and encourage further development, please donate. We are a nonprofit organisation and can provide tax exempt certificate on donations from €50.

Please share your feedback, comments, issues, ideas for improvement... - anything that can help us to make you enjoy this watchface even more!

And last but not least - as a developer, I want to thank to the Garmin Forum Community for help and assistance with this development, by answering my dumb questions, bringing the ideas and leading me to the right way. Without you, it wouldn't be made!

  • Updated to Ver. 2.1.0:

    • added civil twilight (light blue section) - the period after sunset or before sunrise when the sun is less than 6 degrees below the horizon and during which on clear days there is enough light for ordinary outdoor occupations

    • fixed a bug with incorrect timezone calculations

    • accuracy improvements
