Indoor walking app - submit your ideas here!

I'm in the process of building an "indoor walking" app. Record an indoor walk on devices that don't have that activity type.

(right now, it will be for the vivoactive and the new forerunners)

I'm stripping down my "hike" app, which does outdoor hiking and walking sessions.

It already shows the TOD on all pages, as well as Temp and Heartrate (if those sensors are available)

But much of the stuff in "hike" depends on GPS (like waypoints, location, altitude, etc), so right now, I have three screens of data. The main one in hike, with time/distance. The second screen is again the same as hike, with pace/avg pace/speed/avg speed, and the third page is like the steps page in hike but I added the avg cadence.

It will allow manually marking a lap, but no auto-lap.

Like hike, it will support a HRM as well as a Tempe, but also a footpod.

This thread isn't an introduction to the new app, but a way I can get suggestion for what people might also want in a new app. I do want to keep this simple so I won't add anything that's too complex, and needless to say, there is only so much data I have to work with.

The main screen as of now:

I didn't see this data page in the description of your hike app thread so maybe I missed it, but what about "current cadence" in steps per minute. May need a simple filter bit that would be useful to a walker trying to get their step goal or part of their step goal for the day.

The "steps" page was new in an update to hike, as well as a Graphical display of waypoints. There isn't room to include them in the app store pictures, but there is a link where I show them in the hike thread.

Maybe for "indoor walking" I'll include a "cadence page', and maybe I'll add one in hike too. What I've seen in the past, is that cadence data can be a bit odd if you're at normal walking speeds, or going even slower on a hike. I'll see what I can do.
  • Overall, the app works well! My only request is to make the screen a bit more like the standard run screens. I can't read the HR unless I really focus and hold the watch steady for a few seconds... tiny font in blue at the bottom is very hard to read. Plus, personally, I just find the screen a bit too cluttered. I'd want just distance, HR, time elapsed and pace showing on a screen.
  • Explicitly turn Satellites setting to "Off" for the app, otherwise system defaults may cause inadvertent use of satellites for this "Indoor" app.
