Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • Thanks for sharing, looks good!

  • Dear Mark,

i do not understand how to copy a code and were to paste so it apears on watch. I paste in settings on nu phone Garmin Connect but face does not change.

Pls help do i can learn. Thx! Pieter

  • Hi Pieter, these should be the steps you need to follow (I'll list some of the possible pitfalls that I know about) - this should work using any of Garmin Express, Garmin Connect Mobile, Garmin Connect IQ Store app. Make sure you have the latest version of M2 installed by the way - some of the early versions from a few days ago had some bugs.

    • First select and copy the text code for the profile you want to display - e.g. from a web page, email or notebook
    • Open the settings on your PC or mobile (that is currently connected to your watch) - the official guide to access the settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store
    • You will see that the top setting is called "Profile Text" - whatever text is in there when you open the settings is a code for the current display on your watch.
    • Some codes might be split into 2 halves for complicated displays if the code is very long - in this case the 2nd setting called "2nd half of profile text" will also be used, but normally this is blank (so leave it empty or make sure it is empty)
    • First delete any text that is currently in "Profile Text" - make sure that is blank
    • Now paste the text that you originally copied into the "Profile Text"
    • Make sure there are no missing characters at the start/end, and no extra characters at the end (like a space) - if the code is invalid in any way then when you try and display it the screen on your watch will just go blank as it doesn't understand the code.
    • After entering the "Profile Text" you then need to save the settings (so they get sent to the watch). On my Android Phone I click "DONE" - not sure what it is for an iOS phone.
    • (If you are using Garmin Express and your watch is connected to your PC by USB then now disconnect it)
    • The display should now appear on your watch!

If it doesn't then there are some extra things you can check in settings in case they got modified by mistake:

    • Make sure "Profile Management" is set to "Current Profile"
    • Make sure "Profile Number" is set to "1"
    • Make sure "Profile Activation Days" is set to "0" or "1234567"
    • Make sure "Profile Start Time" and "Profile End Time" are still showing "HH:MM" or are blank

If it's still not working then let us know! (And let us know which code you are trying to use so I can verify it works)

  • Second iteration; the batery icon color changes depending on the percentage (superimposing three fields) and the same goes for the alarm and the telephone icons. The heart rate and second indicators only appear on gesture.

The code comes in two parts:

    01ZCW1H25111UKO1011X6Wc02JF53NE121C11X6YY2YgI0R3Va253U25YtWLYY04I0VeZ9WLYY04H0VdHXGYY14R0Vd3Ve251X6Y903X7213N4136453N313XD211X6Xk0500VWVVUTS51X6WD24L013VV451X6Vt23VW24W3XGWD14P013Vo451XGVt13Vp241X6P04Q013Vm45WZVjXu04C13WJVjXu04C1RXbYTXu04O13XLYTXu04O1RP0V

    d0000

  • So now the upgrade is done and the battery consumption is tested. Earlier I thought I would mention consumption at about 0.3% / hour but more specifically it was 0.275 and now with seconds refreshed only every 5 seconds the consumption is 0.268 / hour. I am quite happy with it. Otherwise would it be possible to get leading zero also for small time(sunrise/sunset)?

  • Here is my humble attempt:  Apart from the obvious heartbeat and time it shows steps/floors and the date (day number in month):

    01ZC2525111WDPO1011X6Wi020Vc121VcVd1X6YK04R1Vd3NC13VeC11X6N035C11X6W203VVC13OC13VXC1

  • Ok a (very) small battery usage improvement Slight smile Thanks for testing it!

Yep I'll add leading zero options for small time over the weekend - they will appear in the "Time (Advanced)" menu in the designer.

  • Here is my contribution Grinning :

a low battery icon appears in such case and the notification icon disappears if no notifications

  • Displays the star when your move reminder comes up, shows DND and phone disconnected as well. Outer ring is weekly intensity minutes and inner ring is your step goal for the day.
