Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • - Is there an option "visible if wi-fi is connected"?

There isn't sorry - I did try one recently, but it is basically never connected to wifi apart from very very very rarely, and only for very short periods! So it was better to save the memory the code used and remove the feature again.

    - Is there an option "visible if heart rate monitor is detecting any values" (wearing the watch actually, and not while it is lying on the desk)

These are the heart rate visibility options:

    • HR no zone
    • HR zone 1
    • HR zone 2
    • HR zone 3
    • HR zone 4
    • HR zone 5
    • HR above max

So to get what you are after it is slightly painful unfortunately Slight smile You would need to duplicate that field/element 6 times, and set each one to have a different visibility to cover all the cases apart from "no zone". Not ideal! It seems a waste but it won't be any more expensive really unless you are making a very complicated design.

I'm wondering if you might be wanting to turn lots of fields off when it isn't worn? I might be able to squeeze in another option if that's the case - let me know!

  • Thank you for the detailed response!

Good to know about wi-fi; I thought the connection remains established when/after uploading activities. But if this is not the case I will not need the icon ("topic closed").

The HR topic: Interesting that I am the first one asking for an "any zone" option; not all watches have integrated HR monitor (but connected belts), right? For these models it would also make sense only to display HR while there are data available at all.

In my case I don't like wearing watches all day so my watch is lying on my desk most of the time. This is why I set the seconds also visible on gesture, so the display remains calm and not catching my focus. Currently I'm displaying HR also on gesture only, but I thought it would also make more sense only if data are available.

(But that has no priority; if it is not implemented I can manage the solution that you mentioned earlier as well!)

    Thanks again!

  • From top to bottom:

    • battery (fill and % color depending on high/med/low)
    • number of messages and/or icon phone connected
    • time large
    • date
    • altitute; HR monitor (gesture activated)

seconds in circle (gesture activated), different colors for 0s and 5s steps

Thank you for the great tool!!! :-D  It was fun once I managed to use the Garmin simulator.... ;-)

If you have any suggestions or feedback, I would be happy for it! :-)

  • hi, I found a bug, the minute hand when it is at 00 or 24 with a white background is not visible

  • Anche la nuova versione è molto bella!

  • - those mini analog dials are looking cool Slight smile

    Answering some questions:

    >>>>>> I found a bug, the minute hand when it is at 00 or 24 with a white background is not visible

Yes you are right this is a bug (kind of!) - it is also a feature (kind of!) Slight smile Because the "hand" style is squeezed into the code and uses a lot of the same drawing as the other methods - so when the time is at 00 then it counts as "empty" or "unfilled". So I think at 00 it uses the "unfilled color" for that dial (let me know if changing this doesn't work for you!) I left it as a "feature" because I thought it could be kind of cool to have the hand a different color when at 00 (and it was cheaper in the code).

    >>>>>> every time I press the buttons too fast while editing the faces, the smartwatch restarts

I haven't noticed this, but I can understand why it might happen - it could be the app is running out of memory if you try and do things really fast, and so this would make the app crash & restart. It's probably more likely to happen for complicated designs (as they will use more memory). I'm doing a few "dodgy" things with the memory just to get it all to fit in, so I'm almost surprised it works at all Slight smile I don't think there's anything I can do to improve it currently - only suggest pressing the buttons slowly if that works ...

  • - cool Facebook group, thanks for making it Slight smile I'll add that link in the top of this thread.
