Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • It works SmileySmiley

I saved a profile for detailed watchface and gesture mode for simpler one.

There's one problem, I don't know if it's a bug or not but gesture mode only works with physical button, not with touchscreen. I mean when I touch the screen it illuminates but watchface remains still. To see the detailed one I should press the button.

Anyway it's still great Slight smile thank you again.

  • Another green variation. Tried to make it look a bit washed out and army-ish. The previous blue version has an error in the date alignment that is fixed here.

HPA is hPa/baro. IM is intensity minutes (been lazy so far this week). Sun is dusk/dawn. P is phone, N is notifications and A is alarms. Top bar is battery, bottom bar is training load.

    First:

  • What's training load, I mean I know what it means but which data does it shows? I also can't understand the difference between intensity minutes and smart intensity minutes...

  • I also have no clue what the difference between smart intensity minutes and just intensity minutes is. I've tried googling with no luck. Maybe @markdotai knows.

I use the training load bar to see if I'm improving, maintaining or detraining. Currently I'm detraining. The value it shows should be the load relative to fitness level. It could be a number, but then you need to know how to interpret it. I figure if the bar is above 50 % it's not too bad, and close to 100 % is great. If the bar is full, I need to take it easy until it goes down a bit. If this is not correct, someone please correct me!

I reckon intensity minutes and training load is far more useful than steps, floors and calories if your goal is to improve fitness level instead of just maintaining body weight and staying healthy.

  • Cool, glad you got it working Slight smile I was wondering if the tap on screen would work - as if it did it might cause lots of accidental "high power mode". It might be why Garmin don't handle it for CIQ watchfaces.

  • &

I hope I know, at least roughly anyway Stuck out tongue

This is a description of training load:

Garmin don't make the official training load value available to CIQ watchfaces, so the value I calculate and display is a custom one and may not (well definitely won't match ) the Garmin one.

The one calculated for M2 is based on active calories, a daily average for the last week, compared to your average over the last few months. If you burn your average number of calories the value is 100, of if you burn more then it's above 100 (so your training load is increasing) or below 100 then decreasing.

So it is kind of like a percentage value. If you burn twice as many active calories as normal then it should be 200. (But you would have to do it several days in a row).

When you display as a ring or bar then it always displays values from 0 at the start to 200 at the end. So an "average" value of 100 will be in the middle.

Intensity minutes: is your normal intensity minutes for the week as a fraction of your intensity goal for the week.

Smart intensity: (copied from Luceo/Actiface watchfaces by request) this takes your intensity minutes so far, as a fraction of a "smart goal" - where the "smart goal" is your intensity goal for the whole week, divided by the number of days in the week so far. E.g. on day 1 of the week your smart goal is 1/7th of the weekly goal, then on day 2 it is 2/7ths etc. So I guess it allows you to try and spread your activities and intensity minutes across the week, and still feel like you are hitting a goal each day.

You could see the same kind of thing by having a bar for the whole intensity minutes in the week, and then splitting the bar into 7 segments (one per day ...) using some markers on top. Then you would see if your activity was progressing enough through the week in order to hit the total goal at the end of the week.

  • Tapping on screen doesn't work, just physical buttons work as gesture. But it still drains battery, power save mode didn't help much. Thanks for definitions Thumbsup

I also chose the smart intensity mins. and training load for my bars, thank you Slight smile

  • First thngs first; Many thanks to the developerI for this - it's brilliant!

I've played around and got my daily 'tickover' battery use down to less than 3% on a 6x. (And that's with 2 battery usage apps running in the background monitoring my battery use)

This is ideal for me as I bought my fenix as I wanted a movement tracker with a long battery life and a map - so I want a set up that doesn't eat the battery when it's not doing anything more than telling time and counting steps.

I use 2 screens with the main data watch face only coming on when I look at the watch and the simpler watch face being the active one all night and when I'm not looking at it.

    Simple screen:

     01ZW2Vz25111WDPO1011XGWc02JVc121VZ11XGYQ03X7C11XGVj035C13NC13XDC11VvYQ04R013VeG1WJYQYQ04C11

The only thing worth mentioning on that screen is the clock icon; it’s visible if an alarms set, hidden if no alarm’s set.  That’s really all I need to know apart from the time.  The heart rate's there as my sleep's really bad.

This is saved in profile 1 with a start time of 11.30pm and end time of 6.30am, thus making it the only watch face that’s active over night.
At 6.31, it switches to the next active profile - profile 2.

The same watch face is saved again in profile 2 with no start or end time but instead I’ve set a gesture profile of 20 so it switches to my ‘data face’ whenever I look at it.

    Data face: profile 20

    01ZWVz5251W21WDPO1011XHXG12JVn11XvWY121VlVe1XSWE13X7413N2135411WSP14L013VV611WeYy1YQH01YQVX01ZCH0VeZCVX0Ve3Va613U611KXs14R013Ve611KXN1bGT1Veb0S1O3Vj613Q613Vk611KWp14Q013Vo611OWK14G013Vr6181B0VxVe00WpXbWr0WrVZF1WsF011XhWY0fu101gA001XOE01

This is saved in profile 20, active all day every day and no gesture profile.

    • The ring is steps against goal.  It’s one of the unlimited rings.
    • Battery icon has now been changed to a colour coded icon that empties.  You know what I mean.
    • The icon showing as sunrise at 5.54 will change to a sunset icon and show that time.  It’s more of a next sun event field.
    • The flame below that = active minutes.  (Yeah, the picture shows I’ve been lazy).
    • In the yellow box, there are 3 icons that all appear / disappear depending on value.
    • Top line shows number of notifications with hidden icon if value is zero.
    • Bottom line shows a phone icon when connected to phone and also has a circle icon that's filled when an activity is running, empty when paused and hidden when none are running.

Maybe this’ll help as a basis for someone else to make use of this great app.

  • I've set mine up with 2 faces so there a really basic one running at  night and when I'm asleep.  My battery use is minimal (3% a day on a 6x).

I've left a reply to the main thread with my settings for doing this.

  • Very good watchface,

    I use battery,

    training load, HR, altimeter,

    step, distance,

green progress of daily steps, and deep orange when move bar alert is on.

But everyday i drive with bike and use Edge 520+ un Fenix 5+, and all week distance summar information I see only Fenix 5+ as widget ( without total time and average km/h) or Strava.

Will be nice, if possibility to add data cycling (runing/swimming) field as:

Total planed and fact week/month drive distace.

Total planed and total week/month drive time.

    Average speed  km/h  (or temp).

My be add average week HR, power watts and cadence. And will be calculate average Watts/kg.
