Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • - thanks for that good explanation and trying it out Slight smile Even if it's not what you needed! Maybe Garmin will add an option to test if wifi is enabled at some point ... until then I'll remove it again.

  • Edit: Updated version at the bottom.

Said I wouldn't make another, but it's become a mild addiction.

  • - more tricks going on, custom battery is cool Slight smile I did see the rocket one briefly too - that really was being creative within the limits Slight smile

  • Just removed most of the tricks in an edit to make it look cleaner.

The rocket one was a bit silly, and had some mistakes that I didn't want to fix, so deleted it instead. More fun to start over :-)

    The rocket face:

  • Hi Mark, many thanks for your app, it is really great! At the beginning I was quite skeptical about working with it directly through the watch as I was not able to get the PC version running due to Slight smilesome technical problem... But then I realized it is so easy and fun to work directly with the watch! Slight smile Excellent job!

Respect also to all of you creative guys with so much fantasy sharing your beautiful artworks!

For myself, I created something very simple, to keep the battery consumption low.

Both versions have Alarm icon on top which appears when alarm is on and also Mobile icon which appears when phone is connected. The Battery icon at the bottom appears only when battery is low 20% or less.

The second version is including Move bar which appears and replaces the Garmin inscription when the Move allert is triggered.

    With Move bar:

  • Nice and minimalistic design!

  • - cool, nice one Slight smile Glad it worked!

[I need to check the PC simulator version as Garmin have changed the SDK installation now.]

  • : I did a little testing now and tried a full battery circle with a standard watchface and one with M2 after the update. Apparently something changed.

The standard watchface uses around 0,4% per hour and the M2 is mostly around 1% per hour now (used to be 0,5%) in the smartwatch mode.

I have all the settings so that I use the minimum amount of battery, so no active bluetooth when not necessary, also i manually switch off searching for headphones after use and so on.

When I have time to set up my watch again I will try to do a factory reset, maybe that helps.

  • Just in case you're interested I have an update for you on the increased battery drain topic for the Vivoactive 4.

Apparently many people are experiencing an increased battery loss (especially over night) with any other watchfaces except the stock faces.

I did a complete delete and reset of my watch to see if it would resolve the problem, it didn't.

So far I don't know what's causing this but the battery loss with the M2 Watchface is still doubled.

I hope somebody in the forum or Garmin team finds a solution for this soon...
