Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

 has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • Ok, I got my Fenix 6X Sapphire yesterday and this is my 1st watchface Dashboard_v2 - many thanks to  for the great M2 editor!

    1. Battery icon changes color to red if low;

    2. Phone icon changes color to red if connection is lost;

    3. Message icon swaps to red if unread messages exist;

    4. Alarm icon disappears if no active alarms are present;

    5. The 2nd time zone if fixed for Korea (I have customers there)

    , may I ask if you have any plans to add weather forecast option (perhaps should be paid?) and possibility to import images, please?

    And another question: I was trying to make white background for the main time indicator (should be red or black in this case) but I did not succeed, I though there should be the layers concept when the later field is placed on top of the earlier one, but this seems not work... What was I doing wrong?

    Thank you!

  • Nice design!  And nice watch!!

  • Thank you!

    And also small update for this Dashboard watchface fixing problem with "big hours" alignment:

  • Hi, this is my first M2 watchface. It's a black on white, easy to read, minimal with just the info I need: time with seconds in a very slim circle, battery %, walked distance in Km, HR and 3 icons for
    - notification, visible only if a notification is pending
    - alarm, visible only if alarm is ON
    - phone, visible only if connected

  • Really easy to read, thank you for sharing!

  • Very happy with the design.

    Stole someone's and made some small changes.

    For the weather - it's in the back of my mind (and lower part of my list) to add this - but I suspect it won't be possible due to memory limitations. So maybe only for watches which allow more memory for CIQ watchfaces (which is only the touch screen ones I think currently). Or when some newer watches with more memory come out.

    Import images sounds even harder Slight smile It would be possible to do (with more memory again) - and would probably require a custom phone app or website for downloading from. But it's a nice suggestion which would be cool - so I'll put it on my list for future ideas.

    If you want to have part of the background a different color from the main background color, then you'll need to use a Rect field like you did with all the lines - you can resize this however large you want, and choose a color for it. And yep you're right about the layers concept - the fields get drawn in the order they are listed (except for seconds which are always last). So make sure the Rect is earlier than anything you want drawn on top of it. I don't know if you were trying a Rect or not - but try that and let me know if it works!

  • Thank you for the feedback and for the explanation about the layers!

    Weather forecast would be a great new feature. I believe, it may be useful for quite many users, look forward to it.

    Finally I'd like to have something like my old watchface made for Pebble Steel with the Canvas editor, perhaps with 2-3 days forecast on top of this:

    Do you think if it would be possible to add it to Fenix 6X Pro watches, perhaps with limited number of other elements to fit to the memory size limit?

    Indeed import images may have lower prio, especially because the transflective screen used in many Garmin devices may change image quality significantly. Icons are better in this case, especially it would be possible to scale them more than between the "small" and "medium" sizes...

    And one more question - would you like more new feature proposals / discussions like this or better not to bother you with these perhaps less relevant ideas? Slight smile
