Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • Awesome watch face. Love how configurable it is.

Here is my first try, very simple:

    I think it’s self explanatory.

    01Ys252W0111WDPO1011WwVo04F013VZ213N213Va213U211WwWO020Vb121VaVq1WwXo03X7213N2135213N213XD213N213XJ213E211WwYI0WMC01VqVV01XOE017010WwWAYE17010WwXiYE1

I did however not succeed in adding training load. It just sits on 100 regardless of what the value really is. Any tips?

  • Nice one Slight smile

The training load that M2 shows is different from the Garmin value (I should have used a different name sorry …) - it is more like "recent active calorie burn load".

For the 1st day of use it will probably stay at 100 (percent) since it hasn't got an idea of what your daily active calories might be. On future days it will hopefully start changing as it works out a long term average - this should improve over a few weeks, depending on how regular your "active lifestyle" is.

  • Thanks, it’s a good start and I will continue to tweak it.

thanks for the explanation, I was just confused since it didn’t add up with Garmins training load.

have you considered adding training effect as a value? I’ve seen other watch faces using it so I assume it is available from Garmin.

  • It looks like "training effect" is available for the current activity - so a watchface must be able to get access somehow (and maybe store it if necessary) I don't know how long the value is valid once an activity ends, but I can do some tests Slight smile I'll add it to my "work to do" list if it will be useful.

  • How does this thing work? I used to use the M1 app and then lost my watch face during the latest update. Downloaded this M2 with the Designer app and all I get is a blank screen with “IQ” and an exclamation point.

This is not user friendly at all! What am I missing? (Yes, I followed the instructions in the very first post here)

    Thank you.

  • Hi Slight smile The "IQ" symbol means that the watchface/app is failing to run for some reason - I often find this can be due to firmware updates or app installs not working properly. E.g. I recently had a user contact me saying all their CIQ watchfaces had suddenly stopped working (there was a firmware update on their watch) - they had to reset their watch, and then everything was ok again.

So first of all, can you tell me:

    • Is it M2 (watchface) or M2 Designer (app) or both that gives you the "IQ" symbol?
    • Have they ever run successfully since you installed them?
    • Which model of watch do you have?
    • Which firmware version is installed on your watch?

Checking the online debug logs I can only see problems currently occurring:

    1. M2 failing to run because the watch has too old firmware installed (across several watch models) - this is due to a bug in Garmin's app store which allows people to download some watchfaces when they shouldn't able to
    2. Someone yesterday was having lots (26) of system errors on a Forerunner 245 - if you have a 245, then this will be you! If it is I can offer some suggestions to fix it.

    Let me know!

    Thanks,

    Mark
