Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • For battery usage, the only way is to see how much the battery drops over time - however there are some CIQ widgets which can help with this. They normally require you to reset their data and then check back a few hours later to get an accurate measurement. If I was to recommend one it would be "SHN Battery" (apps.garmin.com/.../ca654b94-b219-433c-a00a-2f93e0c5ded5)

I received a "user feedback" request to add a battery percentage below the date on the default profile - but unfortunately due to the current bug with the feedback system (Garmin are working on it …) I received no reply address. So I am posting it here in the hopes that the user Fareed will find this! (And hopefully it matches what they were after Slight smile)

  • Hi ,

How does the training load value in the watchface relates to the one in the Garmin widget? After being able to run again, now the widget in my FR245 shows "Training Load Last 7 Days 399 High", while the value in the watchface is "131".

    Thanks!

    Sergio

  • Good question Slight smile They could be completely different values as they are not related in any known way! Unfortunately CIQ watchfaces don't have access to the official Garmin training load value, so the one displayed in M2 is calculated by the watchface based on your active calories each day.

There is a recent weighted average of active calories calculated for the last 7 days.

And a longer weighted average of active calories over the last 8 weeks. (So can take time for this to settle down).

The recent value is compared to the long term average as a percentage of it. So values above 100(%) indicate that your recent active calories are higher than normal, and values less than 100(%) indicate your recent active calories are lower. So 131 should indicate 31% extra active calories are being burnt recently compared to your 8 week average Slight smile

  • Now I get it!

I will add a % after the value, then ;). Just one more question: In order for M2 to store the active calories. does it need to be the current active watchface or just be installed?

    Thanks!

    Sergio

  • Yep good point too - the daily active calories are always available from the last 7 days (whether the watchface is active or not), so that part is ok.

But the long term average for the last 8 weeks is updated once a day, and that requires M2 to be active - it should be enough to switch to it just briefly once a day (or even view it in the system watchface selection menu without actually changing to it …)

If you're happy that the long term average is ok then you wouldn't need to update it every day. (But say updating it only on days when you exercised, and not on other days might skew the values, or not depending on what you wanted!)

Although I notice there is currently a check in the code that if the long term average has not been updated for 7 days, then the next time it is updated it will start the calculation from scratch again using the current data and forgetting any stored values. I don't know if that is good or not ...
