Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

For custom text? (It is on my "to do" list but still thinking on how best to implement this ...)

    Just suggestion:

5 text fields (limited to say 10 characters) in M2 Designer mobile app?

After filling custom text just sending this configuration back to watch (Save profile)

Custom text might be nice. The only thing I was hunting for was Z for Zulu/UTC. Either way I'm still stoked about this watch face.

I love this watch app - absolutely the best out there. Here’s my small updates I made to one of your previous designs (my favorite). I added steps, and a battery icon up by the date. The full icon shows if the level is medium or high, and the empty icon will show instead (in the same place) when the battery is low. It kept that clean and simple look, and uses very little memory.

Thanks for building this watch face!

Would it be too difficult / too far from scope to extract info from non-Garmin data fields? It might be nice to add some weather info, etc. What have been your thoughts on this? Memory / Battery / programming limitations?

  • Nice one, do you the code of this one?

  • I've made an Excel file with the menu layout - which looks slightly crazy but see what you think. I think it's correct but not fully checked … And if I come up with a better idea for the layout I'll try and change it Slight smile Or maybe someone knows a better way ...

  • Former Member So far I've stayed away from trying to do weather Slight smile It would be nice, but I have a feeling it could be expensive for memory both on the code side and for the extra graphics. It's on my potential "to do" list, but down near the bottom - but at least it's there Slight smile

  • Former Member Useful suggestion for custom text, thanks Slight smile

There seem to be 2 options for custom text entry with different pros and cons:

    1. Enter text via the Designer menu
      • Harder to enter text
      • Every profile could have different custom text strings built in (good or bad?)
      • Extra code (& memory) needed to handle saving these strings as part of the profile
    2. Enter text via the Garmin GCM settings
      • Easy to enter text
      • All your profiles would share the same custom text strings (good or bad?)
        • (Unless combined with Save Profile like you suggest)
      • Settings take up a painful amount of memory (especially text ones)

I'll keep thinking on it until I can decide!

  • WOW...that's impressive.  It's going to be helpful for me.  I'm sure it's an eye opener for most people.  Thank you and if there's any changes I'm sure you can add them.  I think if this Exel format works for you then just let it work.

Thanks for the response. I understand, and still appreciate watch face as it is. Cheers!
