Available in the app store! For the vivoactive and new forerunners!

This will provide access to data from thousands of weather stations in the "Weather Underground". Only tested in the US, but I understand it's available in many other locations.

Not just the weather in your town, but it could be your own back yard, if you have a weather station connected to WU!

To use this widget, you WILL NEED an "APIKEY" from WU. You can get one for no cost but only if if have a weather station that sends data to WU,

.
Many of the following posts are for the old version of this widget which is no longer available, so check at the end for info on the new version.

  • I've been using this Widget on my F3HR and now have it on my F5.

I've noticed the F5 has a better vibration alert than my F3 did, so I was curious if a Vibration Alert can be sent when the screen switches from "Requesting Data" to the next screen. Sometimes requesting data can take many seconds, so I thought it would be great if, for example, I'm in the middle of a conversation, that it would just notify me when there's something for me to look at.

Otherwise, it's still a great widget! Thanks!
  • That is something I'll consider!

It would be configurable in some way and maybe do a tone on devices that don't support vibrations, etc.
  • I'm having a problem with this App with my Garmin 820.
It was working, but then I removed it from the Garmim, and I'm getting a Bad API Key with the App removed.
I reinstalled the App, entered an API key, and I'm still getting the BAD API Key error.

ok, should have realized this before I posted, but I cleared the files in the Apps Folder on the Garmin 820 and no more error.
  • The screen shows it's installed, but doesn't have a proper API key. It's a weird 16 character string, so make sure you didn't miss a character or something.

If you go back at look at the app settings on GCM or Garmin Express, do you see the key you entered?

Something else. Is make sure you aren't running the widget when you are setting the APIKey from GCM.
  • Just installed it and got it running. Love all the data. One suggestion would be to show the previous data and a refreshing spinner of some sort. I live in an area with spotty cell reception, and when I go into the widget when I have no connection I see it say "Loading" and then "Error 300"... I'd prefer that it just show me the last known data, and some indication that the data is old.

  • Oh, and if I exit and re-enter the widget within some short period of time (like 5 mins), maybe don't force the data refresh. I'm just not able to remember all the info.

Another request: Show a little of today's forecast. I initially got this because the Garmin weather app, while showing the right data fields, doesn't seem to have valid data... often off by 10 degrees F... but I love that it tells you the next 4 hours forecast / next 4 days.
  • Forecast info is a different request to WU, and there's simply not enough memory to handle it in widgets on many devices.
