Data Field: Dozen Run Fields

Dozen Run, Swim, Paddle and Cycle Data Fields
After others are forcing you to pay for these applications, so I decided to make a great data field(s) and then keep them free. I'm a Software engineer, sponsored runner and run coach, I combined my engineering and running knowledge to bring you these streamline applications.

I put thousands of hours of bench and field testing these simple applications. So, consider a small donation.

Install Instructions:
This Data field needs to be added to the (specific) app within your watch to view.

This is a data field not an application and needs to be added to a single data screen within an application.
a.) Goto settings,apps,run,data screen,screen 1
b.)Set Layout to 1 Field
c.) Set Field 1 to ConnectIQ Fields, DozenRun
d.) run happy!

INSTALL ISSUES:
-"!" Issue: If you receive a "!", completely uninstall, reboot and then reinstall. The Setting file changed and the automated Garmin install is not replacing the setting file.
-Download Issue: if you have the "App requires an update before install", hard reboot your watch TWICE and install again.
-TIMER Issue: If you update/install and you see the TIMER and don't see the Dozen data field.
--The data field update or install may require a restart of watch.
--Or the data field needs added to the built-in application, again.

These are becoming a Data Field Suite, where all field are similar making it easier to read while in an activity.

The Dozen fields are intended for training, the data field works fine for speed work, track or races, but readability in these conditions maybe tougher.

IMPORTANT: If you have a Question, recommendation or problem.
Please provide as much as possible (for example the following):

1.) Watch type, Watch firmware version and ConnectIQ version.
2. programmed from Garmin Connect (phone type) or Garmin Express
3.) Which data field
4.) description of issue
5.) if its a "!" error include the error log from your watch. Connect your watch to a PC using USB cable. The error log is located x:\GARMIN\APPS\LOGS. copy the listing and paste in the post.

Description for all fields
--All watch types are support for all data fields. Coded simple to keep bugs at minimum.
-Race Prediction completely configurable for any distance. Distance is entered in meters. Enter 1%-2% longer distance to adjust for normal GPS error and better race prediction.
-Cadence either from watch, footpod or crank cadence. Color coded to provide instant readability
-Heart Rate field is configurable to several methods: calculation (default), manual entered max HR, or individual zones Color coded to provide instant readability
-Pace/Speed is a rolling average to give a smooth reading configurable from 1 second to 120 seconds (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Distance is the total distance for the activity (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Timer is the actual time of the active time. Not Elapsed time.
- Battery meter uses the entire screen for reliability and acts as a divide to help focus one the upper fields.
-Avg Pace\Speed is a Garmin's provided datafield. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Calories is the activity calories.
-Elevation based on Garmin's values. (Metric or statute by user setting)
-Time of day either in 12hr or 24 hour (based on user setting)
-(Fenix3/920)Auto background color Black or White background based on app settings
-(230/235) Configurable background color Black or White background (user configuration)
-GPS uses same indicator as iPhone for GPS signal. 5=full, 4=usable, 3=poor, 2=unused, 1= last location & 0 = no GPS
-Blue Tooth connectivity is shown as a blue "B"
-Paddle Stroke distance is a calculated by actual speed / cadence. Displayed in Meters/Feet.

  • @fbbbrown: Your Data Fields are the best ones in Connect IQ! I really enjoy using them and it shows everything thats needed (at least for me)

The only sad Spot is that the Swimming datafield is not available for the FR920xt! Is it hard to transfer it? maybe u got some sparetime to do it some day!

    thx for the great work!

edit: i just found the answer that u are planning on a swim version for the 920xt. are there any updates on the release date? :D

I just noticed how busy you've been to update all requests! really amazing effort u put in here! garmin should do it the same way :D

Hey check out the App store. Its Done. I tried a similar version in the fenix3 and is more readable. Most request were for Laps and Pace as the main fields I think I did that in the 920 version.

I used the SWOLF data information from the SDK. It worked in the simulator, but i'm concerned it may not work on the watch. Please leave feed back here.

    Enjoy
  • I wasn't sure which version so I checked all three cycle version and it appears ok in the simulator. Could be a bug in the watch firmware or SDK but on my end seems to be ok.
What watch do you have? If you updated your watch firmware, the watch and phone may need bluetooth paired again.

    Some things to check.
Be sure the bluetooth is on on both watch and phone. The phone and watch have be to be paired and Garmin Connect app must be running on the phone. Then the "B" should appear.

I am using a Fenix 3 with 7.13b firmware. EverythImg else works fine with the watch. Always connected to phone, notifications come up on watch all the time when in watch mode and when using dozen cycle. The only thing I notice is that the blue 'b' isn't on the screen anymore.

I don't think I need to pair again as everything works.

Thx for this! I will try it in my next swim workout (tomorrow or on Wednesday) and tell u about it! :)

Maybe u switched it to "don't show" by accident in the settings? There u can choose if the Bluetooth symbol is shown
    -when connected only
    -not at all
    -always

Hi, I'm loving this data field. I have a question though. I've noticed that on my past three runs the heart rate will not show up until about 4 minutes in to my run. This is on a FR 235 with the latest 4.6 firmware. Is this a known thing or just an issue with mine?

Edit: never mind, I searched in the 235 forum and this apparently is a thing with the optimal sensor.

I did a reset of the watch (not hard reset, just holding light button till it powers down) and now everything is good again!
  • Auto calculated

    Hi

Is there a way that will automatically calculate the distance. It after 5k predict 10k then half marathon instead of having good to put in manually

Problem loading Dozen Paddle on F3HR

Been trying to install and run the Dozen Paddle app, without success on new Fenix 3 HR (software v3.20).
    From Apps went to 'Other'
    press start/stop 'Data Screens'
    start/stop ' Screen 1'
    start/stop 'Layout 1 Field'
start/stop and get some text saying Dozen Paddle v1.2.3, Calculated HR and Speed Period, and says 'Press Start' at the bottom of the screen, but then app does not run/start - instead cycles back to previous 'Layout' screen.
On that screen if press down shows 'Field 1 Dozen Paddle'
start/stop shows 'Connect IQ Fields 1/2 Added' (so assume that this means that not added required fields, but then this is a 1 Field layout??).
I have removed and re-loaded the app, and also removed then switched device off/on, then sync'd, downloaded app and same results as above.
Would be very grateful for advice on how to get this app set up and working.
    Many thanks.

You're trying to run an app in the settings, you need to set it up first, then run it... remember this is a datafield, not an App

    Try this:

Settings > Apps > Add New > Paddleboarding (or SUP or Rowing)

    then

    Settings > Apps > Paddleboarding > Data Screens > Screen 1 > Layout 1 Field > select Dozen Paddle

    then

Go back to watch face . Start > Paddleboarding > wait for GPS > Start

You can go back and edit the Paddlebaording App and rename it to Kayaking (or whatever) and add different data pages etc.
  • average pace, period?

Thanks for great SW! Just completed cumulative 1000km running, with dozen run fields showing for 99% of the time...

I run a lot in heavily covered woods with spotty gps reception, and as a result pace seems to jump quite a bit. With Fenix 3 HR I swear it was before possible to set average period to 60s, and get rather smooth pace display.

Now after SW update it seems period is limited to 25s, if I set it to 60s like before it seems to be set to default 12s. Is this now how it is?
  • average pace, period?

Is max average pace period with Fenix 3 HR now 25s? Used to be 60s.
