Heart Rate Zone Distribution v1.3
Heart Rate Zone Interval v1.0

Heart Rate Zone Distribution
This data field shows the heart rate zone distribution. The bar colors change dynamically during the activity depending on how much time is spent in each heart rate zone.
NEW: The single field layout on all watches (except the Vivoactive) displays the time in min:sec alongside separate graphs for each zone.

Heart Rate Zone Interval
This data field shows the heart rate zone in a moving bar graph. The bar colors change dynamically during the activity depending on heart rate zone. The field is meant to visualize the heart rate during intervals, too make it easier see if the effort is appropriate.
NEW: The single field layout is redesigned, and now show a proper graph.

Common for both fields
  • Heart rate zones are user configurable on watches supporting Connect IQ 1.2 and above.
  • Heart rate can be shown as Beats Per Minute or as a percentage of Max HR (user selectable)
  • In some layouts the label background is colored to show the current zone (user selectable)

The following settings are available (Defaults are provided for watches not supporting user settings):
  • Display HR as % of max HR (Default: On)
  • Background color of label shows current zone (Default: On)
  • Duration of graph in minutes (Heart Rate Interval data field only. Default: 15 min)
  • HR Zone 1 (Default: 120 BPM)
  • HR Zone 2 (Default: 132 BPM)
  • HR Zone 3 (Default: 146 BPM)
  • HR Zone 4 (Default: 153 BPM)
  • HR Zone 5 (Default: 163 BPM)
  • HR Max (Default: 194 BPM)

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll see if I can include some of them.
    - Average and max heartrate should be simple, total time as well.
    - I sort of agree on the zone indicator placement, I have it on top in the other layouts. The reason I placed it on the bottom is to make space for a larger font for current heart rate.
    - Descriptions inside the graphs are a 'maybe', I'm concerned about memory use.
    - Training Effect is most likely a no go, again due to memory.

I'm working on Edge 520 and Edge 1000 versions of this field, there I can probably include all of this :)

It's a delicate balance between readability, performance and memory use, with the last one most problematic...

If you want to beta test, please let me know, that would help me greatly :)
  • beta testing - of course

    Hi Torstein,

    thanks for your reply.

I completely agree with you that the balance is very hard to find. At the moment I only train in lower heart rate zones. So it is not so hard for me to read also small fonts and therefore i prefer, at the moment, as many infos on one page.

I dont have any knowledge on connect iq app programming but I am quite surprised that the training effect needs a lot of memory. Training effect is a standard Garmin data field. Is it not possible to easily include standard data fields in a connect iq data field?

of course i will help you with beta testing. just let me know how i can help you.

    i have a Fenix3 - currently running with beta 6.15

    Hi,

You are correct, of course. TE is a standard Garmin field, and easy to include :)
Please send me your email address via PM, and we'll do the details about beta testing that way.

Tested the field on my watch yesterday, but I'm running 5.0 firmware.
Do you get the broken IQ icon when you are adding the datafield, or when you start the activity?

Only when I start the activity. It looks fine when I add it, when I preview the layout, and if I switch to a screen with the field prior to starting the activity.

    @jburchm1
Anyway, I suspect memory issues, so could you try this data field?
    https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/a3c1a414-5411-4c2c-bc9d-b00573ef56db
It is a stripped down version, reducing memory use.

And another thing to help debugging:
Do you have a CIQ_LOG.TXT file in the GARMIN/LOGS folder on the fenix?
If you do, could you provide it? (and if you don't have it, create an empty CIQ_LOG.TXT file and run the data field again).

I will try the new data field this afternoon, and check for/create a CIQ_LOG.TXT file this evening.

    @jburchm1
Failure when starting the activity points in the direction of an 'out of memory' condition.
If that is the case, the activity I linked to should work. Please let me know as soon as you have tried it :)
(I'm located in Norway, and it is getting late here, so I may not see your response until tomorrow my time)

    Thanks,
    Torstein
  • The beta version worked properly. Thank you for all your hard work, I really like this datafield.

Good to hear that the beta worked! I'll try to get a new proper version released over the weekend - hopefully with some new features as well :)

    Am I thick?

Installed this on a Vivoactive. How do I get the colourful screens to appear?

For some reason is isn't possible to change to a single screen layout on the Vivoactive, the only screen available is this one:

There's not much I can do about it, I'm afraid...

    That explains it!

    Yes, that's all I have. :(
