I have installed on my Garmin Venu and the 'always on' function does not work on your watch face...

I assume you relate to data lover? (It's better to post in the dedicated data lover topic).
Always on support is on my to do and will be in the next release. (In a few weeks)
As of Data Lover 9.0 now also has support for always on
