    pick a site

how do I get my site listed in Pick a Site for VivoActive users?

    Hi there,
If your watch is up to date with its software you might find that you don't need to. Try going into the Garmin Connect app on you phone. Press the menu button in the top left corner. Go to My Garmin Devices. Press your Vivoactive, Choose Connect IQ Apps, then widgets, find the nightscout widget and in it you can change the setting for Sitename here, it will just be the first part as the app sticks on the azure part. It should then work.

If setting it errors, then it may be that your watch is not updated to the latest version. If you can't do that let me know and send me a private message here by clicking on my name, and tell me your site name, if I can get the development tool working, I will add it to the list and release a new version.

I have to hard code it in to pick a site and you will need to be happy that anyone who uses the widget will be able to see your bg. With a bit of effort it might also be possible to see the site name too, although I have tried to make it fairly well hidden. And because the data is of no value in itself I took the view that the risk is low.

Let me know how you get on.

    site name not being stored

I believe you still have to enter your site name every time you go into the widget. It isn't being saved. Can this be fixed?

    thanks

    Hi Chris,

Ok, I didn't realise that. Thanks for letting me know. Could you try setting the sitename on your phone and let me know how you get on, please. To do this
Go into the Garmin Connect app on you phone. Press the menu button in the top left hand corner. Go to My Garmin Devices. Press your watch, Choose Connect IQ Apps, then widgets, find the Nightscout widget and in it you can change the setting for Sitename here, it will just be the first part as the app sticks on the azure domain. I hope that then saves properly for you.

If that works, that is great. But you are clearly showing that there is an issue with the widget in this area. If you have a watch with the textpicker and type the sitename in laboriously on the watch that what I did to try and hide sitenames from my pick a site function is flawed.

I have few problems with my watch, as I can't update it to the latest software version. Therefore I can't test setting the sitename setting on the phone properly.

Let me know how you get on.

    Regards,
    R.

    Can't Select Units

    Hi Phimby,

I just got everything set up with NightScout and your widget... very much looking forward to it.

I can't seem to change the units to mg/dl. No options for this on Garmin Express or my iPhone.

Use version 0.0.8 of the widget, 6.80 software on my fenix 3.

Can you let me know what I need to do?

    Thanks!

    Settings on Watch

    Hi TODDWTHOMSEN,

Glad you have managed to set up nightscout. The units need to be changed on the watch itself. To do this press the button that does Menu (Press and hold the up button?) You are then in a menu. Press down to go to Settings, then one of the buttons on the right of the watch (maybe the one with the picture of the runner). Then find Units in the next menu and work your way through the menus and confirm dialogue. Good luck with it. I might update the widget to make it a bit easier. Make sure that you look at the CGM watch and CGM Run apps that someone else has written, because you might find them useful as well (or better meeting your needs). They are set up slightly differently but should work with your nightscout site.

The reason why they need to be set on the watch, is that was the only way to manage settings when I wrote the app.

    Windows phone

    Hi wood duck,

I'm not sure about Windows phones, as I don't have one at the moment and the Garmin connect app is fairly new for Windows. Do you get any error messages? The widget should return an error code if it doesn't get anything back.

One thing to try is to make sure that he Garmin connect app is allowed to run in the background, have a look at this page on the Windows phone site and look at the bit on battery saver and allow apps to work in the background. https://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/connectivity/how-can-i-minimize-my-data-usage

  • Saying "No internet connection"

    Hi Phimby

I'm having touble getting the app to work on my Fenix 3. I've entered my nightscout site address but the app is saying waiting for results then no internet connection. Any ideas?

My other apps that require an internet connection are working fine.

    Cheers
  • The widget can be easily configured with the name of your Nightscout Website

    Example:
    Your Nightscout Website is: "yourcgm.azurewebsites.com"
You have enter in the "Site Name" feld only "yourcgm"

More difficult to configure is the also available Nightscout app (from another developer).
This app is basing on Mongolab database access.
