Application: dwMap - Route Maps for Vivoactive and other watches

I have just published a route map app, dwApp, which I hope will fill a hole in the Connect IQ ecosystem.
Download from App Store

The primary goal was to offer a route map display and follow capability on the Vivoactive. The app however works on all Connect IQ devices and should be an very convenient way to send a route to the watch after creating it in MapMyRun, Ride with GPS, etc. It also offers an activity recording capability while you are using the routing feature.

I look forward to your requests, feedback, questions and bug reports, in this thread!

Features
- Uses a link code mechanism to link your watch to your account on http://dynamic.watch
- Your dynamic.watch account can be linked to Ride with GPS and Under Armour (MapMyRun/MapMyRide) to import routes automatically from those accounts, or you can import GPX and Garmin Connect routes
- Indicate which route is your current route, and you watch will automatically download it next time you start the app
- App displays a map view or a dashboard (data fields) view
- Map view has three zoom levels, and shows you current position and direction
- Dashboard view shows speed, distance, HR and other common activity stats
- App uses the normal built-in recording capability of the watch, and when you stop and save the activity it is sync'ed with Garmin Connect in the usual way
- App works without a data/phone connection, using the most recently downloaded route when offline

Hello! I must say it is really a lucky find some developers who can create an app so fantastic and well done. the top would be if you could implement the function of tracking the altimetric profile so you can know, in addition to where you are in relation to the track, also the point inthe elevation profile of the trace that we are following!!
    Thanks a lot!!

Thanks for the kudo, and I've noted your suggestion. We need to keep the amount of memory used by the route map to a minimum, but we might be able to include elevation by letting the user decide between downloading a more detailed route map, or a less detailed map with elevation points included.

This app did not work for me on my vivoactive watch. I installed it and when I tried to execute the app, all that would happen is a big white screen would come up that said " error 1 "
I tried rebooting the watch and the same thing happened. I am running the latest firmware (3.20)
I had to remove the app. Hopefully it gets fixed so I can try it again.

Was your watch able to access the internet through your phone ok at that time? Eg, could it also get weather or something else that needs web access?

Error 1 usually means the watch could not contact our web server to get a link code. (We've made the error messages more verbose for the next version of the app.)

Oh thanks a lot!! It will be amazing!!
To know in which point of the altimetric profile we are it will be amazing
  • Updated dwMap V1.0.0003 released

New dwMap update V1.0.0003 released today. Summary of changes:
    - Connect IQ SDK updated to 1.1.4
    - More verbose error messages during initial setup process of linking watch to website account
    - Reduced memory use, and used some of the savings to download a more detailed route line to watch
    - Breadcrumbs drawn as more attractive circles rather than squares

Nice to see you support the F3 now.
Watch links great to the site. Wonder how it's done esp since no unique identifier is available for the watch from the SDK.

    Few comments / feedback :
Is there a way to discard the session instead of only saving it?
On the map screen, what's the Z3 at the top and the bottom --3-- denote? Is it zoom level and meter / distance scale?
Seems like when the sport is running, it is still in speed instead of pace? Power etc? Am I doing something wrong? The sport is already stating running

Right now there is no way to discard a session, so will have to Save it, then delete it in History. I've added it to the request list though.
There are three zoom levels, Z1-Z3. Z1 is the scale of the current map, whatever that may be, Z2 is 4x Z1, and Z3 is 16x Z1. The scale line shown is in miles or km depending on your units choice.
I'm already working on showing pace instead of speed when running, so that will be out in the next release.
By power, so you mean why does it show a power field when in running mode? That's a good point, I'll consider showing a different field there. Ultimately I expect to offer your choice of data fields, conveniently chosen on the web site.

    Thanks for the feedback!
  • 1) discard - ok
    2) zoom - ack
    3) pace / speed - I also wonder if you will add in autolap? Reason is many people running want to see their laps
  • The app worked great for me. Thanks!!

    I have some suggestions:
    - it would be easier for new user if first uploaded route is automatically marked for download
    - on my race bike I am most interested in speed, hr and cad. I really want this on one screen. I would suggest to include speed on every field page. Or make a layout similar to 367 bike fields and display more data fields on one screen (9 instead of 4).
    - the triangle could be a bit bigger and different color (black, green), it is sometimes difficult to see which direction it is pointing
    - "deviated from the route" vibration alert would be great

    Regards!
