Application: dwMap - Route Maps for Vivoactive and other watches

I have just published a route map app, dwApp, which I hope will fill a hole in the Connect IQ ecosystem.
Download from App Store

The primary goal was to offer a route map display and follow capability on the Vivoactive. The app however works on all Connect IQ devices and should be an very convenient way to send a route to the watch after creating it in MapMyRun, Ride with GPS, etc. It also offers an activity recording capability while you are using the routing feature.

I look forward to your requests, feedback, questions and bug reports, in this thread!

Features
- Uses a link code mechanism to link your watch to your account on http://dynamic.watch
- Your dynamic.watch account can be linked to Ride with GPS and Under Armour (MapMyRun/MapMyRide) to import routes automatically from those accounts, or you can import GPX and Garmin Connect routes
- Indicate which route is your current route, and you watch will automatically download it next time you start the app
- App displays a map view or a dashboard (data fields) view
- Map view has three zoom levels, and shows you current position and direction
- Dashboard view shows speed, distance, HR and other common activity stats
- App uses the normal built-in recording capability of the watch, and when you stop and save the activity it is sync'ed with Garmin Connect in the usual way
- App works without a data/phone connection, using the most recently downloaded route when offline
  • Is there a way to rename a route once it's been created?
It doesn't seem obvious when click to edit the route.

If you created the route using our planner, then if you can edit it again, make a tiny change, then as you save it you can change the name. I have a to-do to allow all route names to be edited.

I like this app, it is useful for hiking or trail run. But I ve issue on route planning to some location. i.e.

Below is my hiking record to Lion Rock:

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1056686538

I cannot plan the route to it using google map:

    http://dynamic.watch/shared/594e36b1bbfe5ff78ed7b16cea0e7822

Can you advise a solution to it. Thanks.

I wasn't able to import that activity directly from Garmin Connect, but I was able to export it from Garmin Connect as a GPX file, then import the GPX file into the dynamic.watch web site. It is available to you as a shared route now at: http://dynamic.watch/shared/51604ccffafcdc5605e16be46425cdb3

    Direction arrows

I'm not sure if this is possible or feasible, but it would be really cool to have some sort of direction arrows to indication the direction of the track. I've always wished this could be done even on more advanced devices.

It's not really an issue with a track that is just a simple loop, but when the track crosses over itself (like a figure 8), navigation can get confusing if you don't remember exactly which way you were suppose to turn.

The track or a portion (straight sections or sections close to turns) of the track could be replaced with little chevrons that show you which way you are supposed to be going.

    Possible?

You make a good case. I don't think the chevrons idea could work, because it already takes a lot of CPU resource to draw the route line using simple line segments. But perhaps small arrows could be shown on the line near to the current location. The next version will also have navigation features which can indicate whether you are on the route or going in the opposite direction, which may help in your case.

    That makes sense.

Even dots (that replace the line) that extend ahead of your location 50M or so would be enough to show the direction you need to go.

This will be great! Might not prevent you from making a wrong turn, but at least you would know it if you did. That's on par with most advanced units.
  • Garmin Vivoactive HR support added to dwMap

New version out with Garmin Vivoactive HR support: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2750f280-82f4-4f21-a32c-57acc7ce4870
  • Keep getting invalid route ID whilst trying to import a route to a vivoactive HR

This is one of the routes in question (have tried others to no success too)

Have copied and pasted it exactly, am I doing something wrong?
