Application: dwMap - Route Maps for Vivoactive and other watches

I have just published a route map app, dwApp, which I hope will fill a hole in the Connect IQ ecosystem.
Download from App Store

The primary goal was to offer a route map display and follow capability on the Vivoactive. The app however works on all Connect IQ devices and should be an very convenient way to send a route to the watch after creating it in MapMyRun, Ride with GPS, etc. It also offers an activity recording capability while you are using the routing feature.

I look forward to your requests, feedback, questions and bug reports, in this thread!

Features
- Uses a link code mechanism to link your watch to your account on http://dynamic.watch
- Your dynamic.watch account can be linked to Ride with GPS and Under Armour (MapMyRun/MapMyRide) to import routes automatically from those accounts, or you can import GPX and Garmin Connect routes
- Indicate which route is your current route, and you watch will automatically download it next time you start the app
- App displays a map view or a dashboard (data fields) view
- Map view has three zoom levels, and shows you current position and direction
- Dashboard view shows speed, distance, HR and other common activity stats
- App uses the normal built-in recording capability of the watch, and when you stop and save the activity it is sync'ed with Garmin Connect in the usual way
- App works without a data/phone connection, using the most recently downloaded route when offline
  • Yes it does. The only option I am missing is "discard activity", as you can choose "Save and Exit" only. I have to delete it in GC manually afterwards.

Ok good, and thanks again. We will add a discard option at some point, it's on the list.

    This.App.is.amazing.

    Title says it all.
I just purchased the vivoactive and without this App I would have returned the watch. The tracking is just very important to me and you, dear mappicus, made a fantastic job implementing it! I already left a review in the garmin-connect-shop.
If I may, I would like to write down some wishes (it's Christmas tomorrow, after all)

    1) Please do not stop offering this service (dynamic.watch) - so take care of your health and start taking money for your app at some point. I would be willing to pay 15-20$ for dwMap. I don't like subscription-models, but one-time payment is absolutely in order.
    2) Maybe you should change the name and the icon of your app. The App is so much more high-class than the impression the name and the logo gives. The name should be something snappy like: MapTrak and the logo something dynamic. Working in this field, I could send you some ideas, if you want. Please do not be offended. If you find this point disrespectful, I apologize.
    3) It has been mentioned before: Please add the option to discard a run
    4) In map-view: Please make the two data-fields WAY bigger and make them user defined. One digit after the point is enough - like: 6.2km and 65min or 6.1 pace. The mesure-legend in the lower right corner is not necessary in my opinion. Not while running.
    5) In map-view: When using track-up, in all zoom levels the arrow should go down very close to the lower edge of the screen. It is not important where I came from, it is important, where I am going to ;-) Maybe you could even use the lower left corner for data1, the lower middle for the arrow and the lower right for data2
    6) In Data-View: I would love an option for 3 fields only
    7) In Data-View: I would die (or pay!) for custom fields. I so much miss my sunset-time ;-)

That's it. Please keep up the good work!

    Greetings from Berlin!
  • Thanks Liesenfeld

    Liesenfeld,

Thank you so much for the detailed and positive feedback, and I have added the specifics to our requested feature notes. Certainly customizable data fields will be coming, and the "discard activity" option.

Re 5, I will experiment with moving the current arrow down, though I think it might work best at 2/3 or 3/4 of the way down, not all the way down, as I think many users would like to see a bit of where they have just been to orient themselves.

Re 2, as an engineer I am not so strong on the artist and marketing sides so I appreciate your offer of help and will contact you directly. Thanks!

    Great :-)

Yes, true. 3/4 sounds good - looking forward :-)

Yes - thought so. I am more of an artist, so you wouldn't want to take a look at my php-sourcecode ;-)

One more thing for your wishlist: I don't know if it is possible, but it would be really helpful to have an option to let the watch vibrate every x km (or miles)

    Greetings,
    Dirk.

That would be easy to add at the lap/split distances set by the recently added "auto-lap" feature.
  • Very nice app, thanks! Works well on my FR235 now but I do miss the "Waypoint" feature showing distance and direction from current position of the "Hike" App...that doesn't have breadcrumbs ;-) Would it be possible to add it at some point?

(note: actually, a waypoint in hike, IS a "breadcrumb", that you drop as you go! :) )

OK I've noted your request, and we are planning on some waypoint (not just route) based features in the future.

Thanks for your interest and feedback on the app!

    That would do.

Just wondering how this app differs from the built in course navigation on the Fenix 3?
