Application: dwMap - Route Maps for Vivoactive and other watches

I have just published a route map app, dwApp, which I hope will fill a hole in the Connect IQ ecosystem.
Download from App Store

The primary goal was to offer a route map display and follow capability on the Vivoactive. The app however works on all Connect IQ devices and should be an very convenient way to send a route to the watch after creating it in MapMyRun, Ride with GPS, etc. It also offers an activity recording capability while you are using the routing feature.

I look forward to your requests, feedback, questions and bug reports, in this thread!

Features
- Uses a link code mechanism to link your watch to your account on http://dynamic.watch
- Your dynamic.watch account can be linked to Ride with GPS and Under Armour (MapMyRun/MapMyRide) to import routes automatically from those accounts, or you can import GPX and Garmin Connect routes
- Indicate which route is your current route, and you watch will automatically download it next time you start the app
- App displays a map view or a dashboard (data fields) view
- Map view has three zoom levels, and shows you current position and direction
- Dashboard view shows speed, distance, HR and other common activity stats
- App uses the normal built-in recording capability of the watch, and when you stop and save the activity it is sync'ed with Garmin Connect in the usual way
- App works without a data/phone connection, using the most recently downloaded route when offline
  • Update V1.2.0010 released with faster map screen

Just released a minor update V1.2.0010 to dwMap:
    https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2750f280-82f4-4f21-a32c-57acc7ce4870

We've streamlined the map drawing code to make the screen as responsive as possible, especially in terms of the app responding to screen swipes/taps and button pushes when the map screen is being shown. This should boost battery life too.

We are investigating an issue on Forerunner 230/235 where the app restarts after showing data pages. We've not seen it on other watches, and we suspect it's a firmware bug. Not too many 230/235 are out in the wild yet though.

Tried the FR230 3.13 BETA firmware?

Have you tested it with the 3.13 BETA firmware?
I'd like to upgrade from my FR220 but not before (if) dwMap is running. Really love the idea of having a (limited) map on my watch.

    Yes, frmware 3.13...

Ok thanks for the update. We actually testing a workaround that seems to be working, so look out for a new release in a few days, fingers crossed.
  • dwMap release V1.3.0012 with 230/235/630 fix, auto-pause, auto-lap

    New release V1.3.0012 Dec 16th:
    https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2750f280-82f4-4f21-a32c-57acc7ce4870
    - Fixed issues with 230/235/630. This version now should work correctly on these new Forerunner watches.
    - Auto-pause: activity is automatically paused when you stop and resumed when you move again. Go to http://dynamic.watch to enable the feature.
    - Auto-lap: a lap/split is added to the activity each time a given distance is reached. Enable this feature and set your chosen distance at http://dynamic.watch. The laps can be viewed in History on your watch and in the activity details on Garmin Connect.
    - When you are using the app without a current route, a thin black line is drawn between the breadcrumbs to assist in navigation, especially when retracing your route back to the start.

As always we're eager to hear feedback on the new features, and whether there are any lingering issues on the new Forerunners.
Download from the Garmin CIQ Store at https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2750f280-82f4-4f21-a32c-57acc7ce4870
  • Works now on my FR230, good job!

    Excellent, thanks for the feedback.

Does it work correctly on exit? ie, after an activity, when you've press Stop, then Back/Lap, answer the Confirm Exit Y/N with the "Y" option, does it save and exit properly?

Yes it does. The only option I am missing is "discard activity", as you can choose "Save and Exit" only. I have to delete it in GC manually afterwards.
