Thank you RMZ84 for creating a sailing app. Great start!

    I would like to give some personal feedback to help improve or increase functionality of this app. It would be nice to have;
    • GPS tracking (like regular built in apps such as hiking, biking, etc) This is a great way to review your sailing trip. It would be beneficial for person to be able to track the line on the map and compare boat speed etc.
    • Start, stop, resume and save functionality. Would be nice to mimic built in feature.
    • Heart rate tracking data (even after saving activity)
    • Countdown timer - allow user to set a 10,5,1 minute countdown with alarms (great feature for starting races)

Hope app popularity and development will grow.

    Thanks!
    Andrew
    Fenix 3

Hi Andrew, thank you for your Feedback!

    • GPS Tracking is allready implemented. You can start it by pressing the start button after you received the first GPS data. But you are right, this is currently not very convenient. I will work on this!
    • A countdown timer seems to be what many people want to see. I'll implement this in one of the next versions
    • About Heartrate tracking I'm a little bit sceptical right now. I'll think about this one

    Best regards,
    Romano

    Tried
Great start if you will add track saving like regular activity it will be great .
If i pressed on strart button i see iq sign and nothing and app do not counting distance
    I use Garmin Epix
    Thank you !
    Pavel

    Hi Pavel,

GPS Tracking and saving as activity is implemented but obviously causes an error on the Epix right now. Unfortunately it does not in the simulator. I will try to find a way to get some error log from the Epix. It would be great if you could provide me this data.

    Update:

It seems to be pretty simple (I found it in this post: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?210588)

Another nice feature that we've made added is CIQ logging, which can help you with debugging on the device. Here's how you use it:

    Create /GARMIN/APPS/LOGS on the device
Inside the LOGS directory make a CIQ_LOG.txt file

This will log out console messages to the CIQ_LOG.txt file. You can also create a separate log file for each app, where any Sys.println statements called within the app will be written. For example, if your app is called MYAPP.PRG, just create a MYAPP.TXT in /GARMIN/APPS/LOGS

If you could provide me the CIQ_LOG.txt file I will try to figure out, what causes the app to crash.

    Best regards,
    Romano

This is great thank you!! I will install the app soon. Meanwhile i've just sent a couple of beers throught Paypall!
Would be great if you'd implement, with the countdown, the start line too.
    Startline= two gps points

The screen should show the remainig time, the distance to the startline and an indicator that tell you if at the current speed you will pass throught the line too early. Once started the screen should switch showing direction, race duration time, and speed.
velocitek's prostart is something do the same (velocitek.com). Would be great have the same functions on my wrist been on the prow.
    Sorry my english.
    Ciao
    Alberto

To save the track you need to press the start button again (red square is shown on the display). After synchronising the device it will be available under the standard activities in Garmin connect.
  • After last software update on Epix today 2.70 everything begin to work saving work start work
If you will add a race timer and 10s average speed it will be perfect app to yacht racing.
Thank you for hard work love this app!!!

Foreword: I entered this forum by chance and with no intention and I didn't read what the IQ does.
I am not a sailor but I am basically the wizard the sailing shop close to my place calls when he needs to configure a Suunto for one of their customers. :)

The three most widely used apps are located here

    [Description]
    Sail tuning v1.0
    Sailing, Performance

This simple application helps You in succesfull sail trimming. It shows instant feedback of trim impact by comparing Your current speed to Your last 10 sec average speed. If You managed to increase Your speed, You it get a posivite value (kn). Negative value means Your speed is decreasing. Display is updated every 3 seconds.

    [Description]
Race Start Timer : counts down from 5 minutes

    and here

    [Description]
Sailors! Here is another magic APP for you! Actually - 8 APPs in 1! DISTANCE covered in nautical miles, distance to TARGET also in NM, SPEED in knots, DIRECTION offset versus the heading towards the target, VMG (i.e. Velocity Made Good) - the component of your speed towards the target, EFFICIENCY, ETA (Estimated Time to Arrival), current GPS ...

    ----------------------------------------

I know nothing of sailing but it looks like everyone around these parts uses these apps. Surely the F3 can make a better job and since I stumbled here by chance I thought I'd give a suggestion to the DEV. :)
The links should be accessible even to those who have no movescount account. I copied the description instead of the code because I don't suppose it's the same? Anyway if you need to see the code and can't because you have no MC account, drop me a PM and I'll copy paste it for you.

    Cheers!

Thank you for the suggestions! I think I will implement some of these features. Especially I like the Idea of a sail trimming helper
