WatchFace: Sunset Watchface, The first watchface with sunset time

Hey guys,

I have been wanting a watch face that shows a sunset time, so I made one. I found the big piece that was missing was the ability to input a lat/lon to use for the sunset position. To do this I created an initial setup wizard which you can gesture to change the characters and then use 15 steps to lock in a digit. After this is complete you can move on to the real watch face and it will use that position to calculate sunset time. Let me know what you think!

Looks like it required some ingenuity :)
  • great idea... but couldn't get to work

I'm running beta 6.2, so that may be the problem.
I got the watch face on my FR920XT and it asked for the lat and long... a lot of jiggling later, I went to the next screen and pressed back button to get back to the watch face, but it restarted my watch. Can't get the watch face to load. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and deleting settings file, but it keeps reverting to the default watch face or rebooting my watch. Any idea?
Will there be a version with SDK1.2?

Thanks for the great work so far!
  • Will there be a version with SDK1.2?

With 1.2.0, when it's fully released, the lat/lon could be entered from GC Mobile or Garmin Express, making it much easier for a user to configure.
  • I will have to check and see if I can find anything to fix up that crash for you. I do hope to upgrade it to start using the new settings once it is officially released ( jiggling was my best option up to this point :D ).
  • I wasn't able to reproduce your issue in the simulator. If you delete all of the app settings does it allow you to enter a new lat/lon? What lon/lon do you enter?
  • Turns out it works great on 920xt before the beta software and something in the current beta causes it to crash. I have reported it to the CIQ team. I hope they can get it resolved.
  • There's another way :)

Search "sunset" in the app store search box, in watch face (D2 Bravo and Fenix 3)
  • Ok, latest version should now support applications settings. It requires the new 1.2 SDK and the latest mobile app. To set the setting go to the menu -> devices->select device -> connect iq aps-> watch faces -> sunset app -> settings -> change lat/lon to update the location used in the sunset calculation.

This will be much more user friendly than the previous version of setting up the lat/lon information.

Let me know what you think!

    Hi,

I love your watch face thanks for all your hard work.

    Couple of questions.

1.) Is it possible at all to get the steps remaining and time till sunset slightly larger or even just change the fonts to bold?

2.) There seems to be quite a bit more lag from this watch face like 4-5 seconds to move to a widget. Any ideas why this is so? Is it something that you could possibly address?

    Cheers,
    Steve.
  • Which device are you using the watchface on? It was really slow on the first couple version. The current version that switched to using app settings from the phone should be much faster now.
