DataField : UK Grid Reference

I wanted a way to display the Ordnance Survey grid reference coordinates on my Vivoactive while out walking so I've developed a data field which can be added to any activity.

The data field cycles through displays showing current heading and GPS signal accuracy, and a six figure OS grid reference.

It should run on most wearable devices and can be downloaded here:
https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2f30fe76-c14a-46e9-a606-76ced27dd776

A widget version of UK Grid Ref. is also available here : https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/07b03259-24c8-4828-b949-2e48ef04a2c5

Feedback welcome!

Thanks.

  • UK Grid Reference V2.2 Released - support for more devices

Version 2.2 of UK Grid Reference has been uploaded. This version adds support for fr735xt, d2bravo_titanium, and vivoactive_hr.

    Download from: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2f30fe76-c14a-46e9-a606-76ced27dd776

  • UK Grid Reference data in the field

As part of the DofE diamond anniversary Chris Capon is using the data field to help record his visits to the (many) trig pillars in Derbyshire and kindly sent me these pictures of the data field in action... Thanks Chris

  • UK & Ireland Grid Reference Widget update

The grid reference widget has been updated to V1.4. This update includes 2 major new features:

    - Add support for Irish Grid system (and change the app. name to reflect this)
    - Add support for Fenix 5 devices, Fenix Chronos, edge520, edge820, edge1000, oregon7xx and rino7xx

The widget starts out in OSGB Grid Ref mode, but can be switched to OSI Irish Grid mode via the widget settings panel in the Garmin Connect mobile phone app. If you switch to OSI while you're outside the Irish grid, or if you switch to OSGB while you're outside the UK grid then the widget will display lat/long. In the east of Ireland you should be able to switch between valid OSI and OS Grid References using the phone app.

  • Cannot see the app on Fenix 5

I have installed OS Grid on my Fenix 5 and Garmin Express says it is there but I cannot find it on the Fenix.

The Grid Ref. data field is designed to be added to one of the screens in the built in apps. This allows you to get a grid reference while you're recording an activity - for example during a Run or Hike.

To add the data field you should start an activity - e. g. "Hike" , then press the menu button, go to Settings -> Current App -> Data Screens and you should find the Grid Ref field in the "ConnectIQ" section.

I hope that works for you, if you'd prefer to check a Grid Ref when not executing one of the built-in activity apps then you might want to try the Grid Ref widget instead - see:

    Hope that helps,

    Regards

    Mark

  • Just downloaded the Widget Mark - fantastic job! Is is feasible to switch between Lat/Long, OS and OSI on the watch rather than through the mobile app?
    Thanks again!

i'd find this really useful on my new Garmin Edge 130 but its' not currently on the compatible device list - could it be added?
  • I downloaded this a couple of months back and it worked well, but I tried using today (I have added it only to my "hike" data fields, which I only use occasionally), and it just says "Unkown Loc" and wont give me a grid ref. For comparison I added the Grid Ref Widget and that gives me a ref OK. Any idea what is up?
  • If you're on a device that now has CIQ3 (the f5 and f5 plus devices), you likely ran into This with the app's permission.

It's a simple change for the developer to do. Just add the permission and and update the app in the store. Maybe use 'Contact Developer" in the store and mention the Developer Blog I linked to.
  • Hi Im looking for an OS GB widget that will work with a Forerunner 45. Do you know if such exists please? Thanks
