Description
ChromatiCron was designed to be elegant and clutter-free, showing only the essentials in an easy to read presentation. The minutes digits change color to keep you informed of your Move Bar status at a glance.

Minutes digits change color to reflect status of your Move Bar:
  • White = Move Bar cleared.
  • Blue = Section 1 filled.
  • Light Yellow = Section 2 filled.
  • Yellow = Section 3 filled.
  • Orange = Section 4 filled.
  • Red = Move Bar full. Move!
  • Day of week, month, and date.

  • Green/Blue/White/Gray (configurable) = 51 - 100%
  • Yellow = 41 - 50%
  • Orange = 31 - 40%
  • Red = 0 - 30%

  • Not working?

    Hi.

I've downloaded & copied the file for both functions into the stated directory on my vivoactive and there's no new icons on my screen (Bluetooth is on). Have I missed something?
  • I don't think the name for the program (the .prg file) is consistent, and changes if it's installed with GE vs GCM (I've not tried it but that's what the Garmin CIQ folks have said).

Therefore, the name of the Object store (the .str file) isn't consistent. If the .prg file have a different name than the .str (the first 8 characters), the Object store won't be used by the .prg.

    Argh...

jim_m_58 is correct that the first 8 characters of the .str file name must be the same as the first 8 characters of the .prg file name for the app to associate with the object store.

It kinda made sense for the new version of the watch face to have a different name than the old version (and different still for each target device), but did not realize the name would also be different depending on the mechanism used to download/install it. Lesson learned: Don't try to add features before the SDK fully supports them.

I will update the instructions - you will have to figure out which .prg file is Chromaticron and rename the .str file you download to match.
  • It's a pain, and other people have had problems because people can't figure out the .prg name... If installed by GCM it's random per garmin.

User config is supposed to be out in late September....

Look before you leap! :) Here's a thread about the names..

Thanks for sharing the link to that thread! Too bad I didn't see that before.

It does appear that GCM assigns a new name with every install. While fact-checking my updated instructions, I uninstalled/reinstalled the same face, and it was given a different name when reinstalled.

It'll be interesting to see how the Connect IQ team addresses that for user config...

    Does not work

I have a vivoactive, I followed the instructions, but still nothing new shows up...

Is there any way you can make a version that just keeps everything on all the time?
I can never get the thing to activate when I want to see my steps or the seconds...

also it is hard to time anything when the seconds disappear so quickly...

    Dang! Lemme try to help...

Did you try to uninstall then reinstall (only) ChromatiCron? That should give it the "newest" time stamp in the GARMIN\APPS folder. From there, you should be able to re-name the .STR file you downloaded to match, then copy it into the GARMIN\APPS\DATA folder. If that still doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to help you figure out what isn't working.

The "I'm looking at my watch" gesture can be a bit difficult to get just right. I will add your request to a future version that can be configured to always show the step bar or step bar with details all the time. (I might wait until the Connect IQ SDK supports on-device configuration, though, since all this business with copying and renaming .STR files is such a hassle.)

also it is hard to time anything when the seconds disappear so quickly...

Garmin only allows once-per-second updates for a short time (10 seconds) after the "I'm looking at my watch" gesture; the rest of the time, the watch face is only updated once per minute. They did this in order to extend the device's battery life. I can't override that. (Their built-in watch face is actually run on a separate, special, super-low-power processor so they can always show the seconds.) If you need to time something, you'll need to either use the stock watch face or use a Connect IQ timer app.

    Update

Yes, I tried it 3 times always renaming the str file to match, but nothing.

Regarding the " I am looking at my watch now " is there some trick to triggering this?

The key for me is wanting to see my steps over anything else, if that could always show I could get by with the rest as is...
