Widget: Note2Watch

Hi all,

I wanted to announce my new widget Note2Watch, available here https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/af66ba54-9f6e-441b-91ab-e842a56ce9c4

It let's you sync notes that you create on your phone, computer, or via email onto your watch where they'll remain available even when your phone isn't nearby.

I started the project because I wanted a simple Grocery list app, but as I've developed it, it's grown some more powerful features (like IFTTT support via email), so it now does a lot more than I first imagined.

It's available in two flavors, a FREE version which is still very useful, and a PRO version ($4.99/year) with all of the bells-and-whistles. I'm hoping to add even more down the road!

I consider still very much in beta, though I've been happily using for over a month now.

I look forward to your feedback, which you can leave here, or if you choose, drop an email to [email protected].

Thanks!
  • Even for devices other than the va, I believe that they have a 60 second revert timeout, and if you are in a store and following a "shopping list" for example, you'd want it to stay open for a longer time. It could be people will move to the app instead of using the widget.

    Having the server work with multiple "watches" (be they logical or physical), might be a nice feature, if for example, a couple both have watches and want to share the same notes.

    Yeah multiple watches is currently prioritized as long-term wish-list item, something that'd be cool, but will require lots of UX consideration to 'get-right'.

    But given the timeout situation, it might get bumped up the TODO list quite a bit...
  • Hi Kuki,

    Yep editing is high on the TODO list for new features. It's most likely going to take some small changes to the watch-side and server-side to support that, so it's a bit more complicated than one would expect. But, will hopefully be able to roll that feature out soon.

    And thanks for the support here!

    Another request for down the road. I've got a few notes that I really want to stay on the watch at all time. I'm also using an IFTTT rule to send stock updates daily. Problem is that if I don't stay on top of the website and delete the IFTTT notes frequently, they wind up pushing out the older notes that I want to keep. Being able to designate a note as a favorite or protected to denote they should not be automatically shoved out by newer notes would be great.

    Yes!! This is a feature callled 'sticky notes'. This is one of those things that I personally wanted, but was waiting on some validation that other user's wanted it as well before working on it. It's already on the TODO, but getting this request will definitely bump it up quite a bit.
  • Just wanted to announce that v0.1 of Note2Watch is out.

    The highlights here are:

    * Note editing
    * Configurable font size (small, medium and large)
    * More efficient network usage

    Looking forward to folks trying it out. And as always, feel free to leave any feedback/bug reports/feature requests here or at [email protected]. You can also find us on twitter at @Note2Watch.

    Happy notein'!
  • Just wanted to give everyone heads up that a new feature just shipped...introducing 'Starred Notes'.

    If you have a note, or more than one, that you'd like to keep on your watch permanently, you can star it; this will ensure that it's not automatically rotated off the watch.

    This feature is implemented entirely on the server-side, so it's available for all versions of the widget.

    Let me know what you think, thanks!

    (Edit: starred-notes were originally called 'sticky-notes' (see previous posts). The star metaphor better matches Web2.0 style apps, a la Gmail, hence the name change)
  • Hi,

    i like this widget, and got the pro-account. :)

    Is is possible to build in in the webinterfcae the opportunity not only to delete or create a note, but also an edit option? As example: I have a note with important Phonenumbers. When i want to edit a number or to ad an new, i must copy the text of the note, delete it, create a new note, paste the old text, and than i can edit it.

    Kind regards, Kuki

    Kuki, just wanted to let you know that we can support your use-case fully now (we think!)

    You can now edit notes, so you can add/remove phone numbers as necessary.

    Moreover, you can now star notes, to ensure that your important phone numbers stay permanently on your watch.

    As always, if you have any other feature requests, feel free to leave them here or at [email protected].

    Thanks!
  • 0.2 just released.

    Some pretty big changes in this one, here are just a few of the highlights:

    * D2 Bravo support
    * Attempt at fixing Epix pairing issue (please report back if this is still broken)
    * Better note rendering (takes into account kerning as well as being more efficient)
    * Fix issue where app would crash if last note was deleted while in the list view

    As always, if you have any comments or bug reports please leave feedback here or at [email protected]. Thanks!
  • Just wanted to give an update for Epix users experiencing issues pairing their watch to the server:

    The latest firmware for the Epix (2.40) fixes the underlying bug in the property store, so Note2Watch should now work like normal.

    Sorry for any inconvenience here!
  • Note2Watch is pretty great but that timeout is a killer for my use case. I'll second or third or whatever we are on making it an app to get around that limitation

    This is the next major feature in the pipeline. About halfway through implementing it, so shouldn't be too long until it launches, stay tuned!
