Widget: Note2Watch

Hi all,

I wanted to announce my new widget Note2Watch, available here https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/af66ba54-9f6e-441b-91ab-e842a56ce9c4

It let's you sync notes that you create on your phone, computer, or via email onto your watch where they'll remain available even when your phone isn't nearby.

I started the project because I wanted a simple Grocery list app, but as I've developed it, it's grown some more powerful features (like IFTTT support via email), so it now does a lot more than I first imagined.

It's available in two flavors, a FREE version which is still very useful, and a PRO version ($4.99/year) with all of the bells-and-whistles. I'm hoping to add even more down the road!

I consider still very much in beta, though I've been happily using for over a month now.

I look forward to your feedback, which you can leave here, or if you choose, drop an email to [email protected].

Thanks!
  • planetscooter,

Your description is accurate. I definitely agree that it's a bit limited right now, but the simplicity of it allowed us to support an email option out of the gate. We'll definitely be upgrading this feature in the ways you described soon.

The flow should be similar to an Instapaper where you'll be given your own unique watch email address and an ability to white-list from email addresses. We'll need to verify that our email provider can support this and, if they can't, we'll have to switch to something else.

For automatic emails, as in the case of IFTTT, if you're using Gmail, you can use the Gmail channel which lets you send emails from your account. Doing this means the emails to [email protected] will be properly routed.

    No, I'm not using Gmail.

Now I ran into a different problem. I had to reset my F3 (you can watch the drama that's going on here in the forum...). Now the widget wants to pair with the service again. However, the website does not show an option to do that.

Did you think about this? How can we get this fixed?
  • Planetscooter,

On the account page (click your email address on the upper-right navbar), there's an option to 'Pair Again'. You should be able to use that to re pair your watch.

Indeed, that worked for me. Thank you very much.

May be you make the website a bit clearer and let the email address appear as a link, or add something like "Profile" or "account" or "settings" or "pair with widget"? I really searched for a pairing option but it didn't occur to me that I would find anything behind my email address.

Anyway: good work. Keep up the spirit.
  • Yeah, thanks for the feedback, I changed it to 'Account' to make it clearer. Hope that helps other find it!

Hi, I am trying to use the note2watch widget on my garmin vivoactive, but after installing the widget and signing up at the note2watch site, I cannot pair it because every time I look at the widget, it says connection unavailable .
Any info on how to fix this?
    Please let me know ,
    Thanks.

Is Bluetooth enabled on both the watch and the phone?

If enabled, are the Garmin native widgets (Notifications, Calendar, etc) displaying connection unavailable?

I've seen cases where the watch's Bluetooth polling can get 'wedged', e.g. it shows connected but it's not actually working. My usual fix in this case is to reboot the watch (hold down power for a few seconds).

If rebooting the watch doesn't work, try rebooting the phone (sometime's the iOS/Garmin Connect Bluetooth poller can also get wedged).

So far, doing that always fixed the issue. Luckily, this Bluetooth issue is pretty rare, so once you do get connected, it should work thereafter with no problems.

If you're still having issues, let me know and we can do a deeper dive on this. Thanks!
  • Very good app. Please provide an option to pay by PayPal.
I am not comfortable with entering my credit card number on anonymous website.

MarekHuk, thanks for the feedback here, we understand the concern and are currently on working on expanding payment options. One option we're considering is Bitcoin-based payment. Would this work for you?

Paypal will take a bit more work since it's a totally separate provider, so it might not be available for some time, but definitely something we'd like to support.

Just to be clear though, credit card information is securely stored on Stripe's (www.stripe.com) PCI compliant servers. Our site never stores your credit-card number. In fact, your credit card number never hits our server: it goes straight to Stripe's servers, and then our site in turn talks to Stripe to enact the annual charge.

The only credit card info we can see is the last 4 digits and expiration month and year which we in turn display back to the user, just so you know which card you used.

Regardless of the security though, some folks won't be comfortable entering their credit-card number into a website, so, again, other options should be coming down the pike. Stay tuned!
  • I had the same concern as MareHuk and thought the PayPal option would be nice. Since it wasn't available and I was really wanting to check out the Pro features, instead I used the option on my Citibank MC account to generate a one time card number. Took an extra couple minutes but got the job done. Just wanted to throw that out there in case its a viable workaround for others.
